World War 1: A History From Beginning to End (Booklet)

The author did not bog me down with mostly unknown names of people and towns and geographic locations. That being said, the story history of a somewhat forgotten forgotten part of history.

This book provides the reader with a well written, consise, and fact filled acount of World War 1 (WW 1) It is filled woth the key events, nations involved, why they fought, the major battles, the weapons used, the conditions men fought and died in, and so forth. I bet some folks are asking why should I read a book about World War I? Consider that WW 1 resulted in more than 9 Million soldiers fatalities, more than 20 Million wounded, and at least 5 Million civillian deaths. Many of them and their loved ones believed they were sacrificing themselve in what was called the "War to End All Wars". However, after 4 years of the deadliest warfare in history, when in 1919, the winners wrote the peace treaty (The Treaty of Versailles) they included many punitive provisions that led to the onset of World War II within 20 years of ratifying the treaty. Clearly mankind did not take away the right lessons learned about the First World War! I have read and studied numerous books regarding WW I, and believe this book will appeal to a wide spectrum of readers.It is well written, easy to understand, clearly and succinctly presented. I strongly recommend that the widest possible audience read this book!

Very solid: condensed and concise history of WWI. Quick read. Well done. Provides a very high-level overview of a war where more than 38 million lives were lost.

Overall it's a good book, particularly if the reader is not terribly familiar with the First World War. As promised by the title, it does indeed cover from beginning to end, but a little more detail would have been welcome, especially given the author's clear and pleasant writing style.

When Henry Freeman writes for 1 hour history, he does a fantastic job. The author presents concise, interesting facts in an orderly fashion. This book was great. Which is why I can't understand how his writing style is so terrible in other quick histories. My suggestion is to enjoy his books with the 1 hour history stamp and stay far away from his apparently self-published titles. I'd be really interested to learn why he has two drastically different styles of writing, 'professional author' and 'not-too-bright eighth grader.'

A quick read that hits on major historical events of WWI.

WWI or "the Great War'" was regarded as the war to end all wars but in truth, it was a messy conflict which left the world stunned, disillusioned and paved the way for a new industry and a terrifying conflict which is still engraved in memory. I debated whether I should give it four or five stars since it quickly glossed over the Russian Revolution by not emphasizing on the horrors of the Bolsheviks in contrast to the remarked abuses of the Central Powers and the Entente. But I decided to go with five stars because it was a straightforward and fairly objective breakdown of this global conflict. Furthermore, it emphasizes that to this day, the nature of this conflict and the disenfranchised veterans and survivors of this war were left with a bleak view of reality. This was a war to which its contemporaries didn't find a moral at the end of the story. Moreover, the end created a void that was filled with resentment because of the restrictions placed on the losing side and the number of casualties from all the countries involved.

Clear and concise telling of the events leading to the start of this war , the significant battles during the war and the aftermath . I knew a little information about this conflict from reading US history textbooks . But this book brought more detail and was not a mundane telling of World War 1 . I never realized the USA committed so many soldiers to this war . Of course there are more detailed books on this subject but for me this is a great start !

The books summarises the major events of the conflict leaving certain details that whilst interesting are not necessary to understand the period.

The first world war went far beyond changing the map of Europe: it was also responsible for the first steps in decolonization, for the "debut" of American protagonism and for making Karl Marx's ideas come out of paper in Russia. In parallel, the war also placed the map of the Middle East in the newspapers. In a sense, it began the twentieth century, which would only end on September 11, 2001.

Very precise truthful spot on for all the critical battles. I enjoyed the read very much.
