Is there a way to get the strap longer?

Yes. Buy a new strap. They make longer ones. It is easy to change a strap. I'm sure Amazon has them.

Watch with day and date?

No, it does not have the date or day. But it's a lovely watch and easier for me to read without all that.

Length of band is what? In inches please. Will it fit an 8 inch wrist?

My wrist measures 6.5 inches and like my watch a little loose. I use the middle hole on the strap ( which has seven holes). You can also add more holes with an ice pick. So it looks like it should fit an 8 inch wrist just fine.
