The craftsmanship of this chess board is outstanding for its little price! The pieces are wood and nicely carved out and have magnets in them. The first board we got had a deep scratch in it, I contacted them and had another one the very next day! I bought this chess board for my daughter to learn on sense she joined the club at school. I love that it has foam to hold the pieces and the board folds up small. Definitely recommend this board for someone looking for a nice wooden chess set. The presentation of the box it comes in is amazing! It also comes with instructions on how to play if you are like me. The pictures are from the first board with the scratch that I think was used before sense the second one came in shrink wrap. This is a great board for beginners or experienced in my opinion. Lovely chess set, a pleasure to use. A very special gift for our young son. We love the quality of the wood, the overall design, as well as the feel, look and weight of the individual chess pieces. It's affordable and entirely appropriate for young children to handle. Even the packaging (both graphics and box that serves as storage design) is lovely. Best of all, the customer service that stands by to support the customer should any issues arise with the game is genuinely invested. Our board unexpectedly warped - they took care of replacing it immediately, kindly, amiably, in spite of the fact that we had purchased the set some time ago. Great chess set! No discoloration on the pieces, they came perfect. The magnets hold strong enough that the pieces don't slide, but not strong enough that you feel like you're pulling hard to move the piece. The board lays almost perfectly flat, but not when you have the pieces in. Don't know why you'd do that, but just a note. The board has no misaligned squares and looks perfect. It feels lighter than it looks also. The pieces fit snugly into their designated spots and do not rattle around when the board is shook. The only two things I wish it had were the rank and file numbers and letters, and extra queens. Outside of those two, this is a perfect chess board and well worth the money!

Having enjoyed playing Backgammon with my teen daughter, I thought it was time to teach her chess, as she is entering high school. So, we wanted a wooden set that would still work while on our slightly inclined couch cushions. This set fit the bill perfectly, and following are some benefits and a few nitpicks: Benefits: - Design of the board is clean and attractive - Board lays flat and fit perfectly together when folded - Magnetic feature is great, providing just enough to keep pieces in place - Great size: large enough to easily play, but fits easily in most spaces - Pieces store securely in side the folded board, each with their own pre-cut space. Opportunities to improve: - Some minor quality-control issues: one stripped screw, a couple of loose screws (easily fixed) and some minor gaps between trim and squares (didn't effect the board structurally). - Pieces are so snug in the foam cutouts they are not easily removed. Pushing just bases into the foam cutouts seems to help with this but making the cutouts just slightly larger would be better. Overall, a great value and a set I think our family will enjoy for many years. So, just write a check for $39.99 and you will have a good game to enjoy with your family and friends.

Although the pieces are a little small, for the money this is a great chess board. It is magnetized, which is a feature I didn't notice before I bought it, which is great. We have a toddler and frequently have to relocate the game to avoid his "help" with our moves. The magnetism is great for these occasions - and I'm sure would be strong enough for car trips, etc. The pieces are well crafted, though not terribly detailed (but, again, more than fine at the price point). They fit tightly in their respective spaces in the storage compartment, which is made of some kind of thick foam and looks pretty durable. This set is a good buy.

This was a very well made product, all pieces are wood and the case is a wooden case with a felt lining and elastic holders for all pieces. I would suggest not pulling the elastic too much as it is 1 strip for all pieces in that row and once its loose none of the pieces will stay. We have had it for over a month I believe almost 2 months and it has held up great. My kids play daily and they take it to chess club weekly where it gets a lot of use. I would definitely order from the company again and would definitely give this as a gift.

Everything about this set is stunning. It’s a beautiful wooden board with well crafted pieces. Easy to store and transport, something I appreciate as I bring it every time I visit friends and family! The magnetic aspect of the board is great, especially if you’ve had a few too many glasses of wine and are prone to occasionally knocking over pieces. Very happy with my purchase. I had looked at soooo many other chess sets, but I certainly made the right decision in choosing this one.

First time buying a chess set... The price was a bit too high but it's alright. Fast delivery (prime), everything looks good it's just the board itself isn't special or doesn't seem like it's worth 50 dollars. But it's decently sized for travelling, etc. I would give it a 4.5/5 honestly not too bad...

Compared to others, the best choice for me.
