After my release from the Shohiro Matsumi rehabilitation center for Noodle Addiction, I returned to my dank apartment, upbeat, confident and noodle-free. But it wasn’t long before the siren-song of the geisha named ramen would call to me in my sleep, at the office, deep in the wilderness. In a fog of desperation, dilerium tremon- esque sweating, and hallucinations involving tree roots made of ramen attempting to ensnare me, I ordered two cases of the pale mare of pasta, instant ramen. It cooks in minutes, tastes like mana, and is easy to embellish with broccoli, eggs, sriracha or armadillo, if that’s your thing. Best value for the hard-core addict.

I love getting the Ramen this way! It's so much more economical! They are readily available and shelf stable! I use them in a variety of recipes! Fresh Asian Salad is my favorite! The mild soy flavor enhances the Asian flavor! The noodles get nice and chewy! All the fresh veggies make it so healthy! Yum!

Best brand of Ramen!

My favorite instant / quick cooking ramen brand is Sapporo Ichiban, it's a bit more flavored to Japanese tastes, but it is more expensive & a bit harder to find than Maruchan. Maruchan Ramen Soy Sauce Flavor is a pretty simple & basic instant / quick cooking ramen. It's pretty easy to find in most grocery stores & big box stores in the USA & it's also very inexpensively priced. Preparing Maruchan ramen is very simple, you just need water & a way to heat it up, it takes just minutes to fix it. It can be made in a microwave (you will need a microwaveable bowl) or cooked over a burner / on a stovetop in a pot. Quick cooking instant ramen is popular with people on budgets, college & older school aged children & office workers. It can also be taken with you to cook when camping or backpacking (it's very light weight). You can buy an inexpensive energy efficient electric hot pot in which you can fix instant ramen if you don't have a kitchen or a microwave or if you are limited in space for preparing food. That kind of pot works great in a dorm room or a hotel room & might make a good gift for a college student or someone who travels a lot. Throw in some ramen packets like Maruchan Ramen Soy Sauce Flavor & you've got a modestly priced but useful present. The seasoning included in Maruchan Soy Sauce Ramen is basically powdered soy sauce with hints of garlic & ginger. You can make your ramen a little more interesting if you cook it in broth instead of plain water (vegetable if you are vegan or vegetarian, but chicken broth, beef broth, & other broths are also options). You can also make it tastier with some vegetables, like fresh, canned or dried mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, green onions, etc. It doesn't take many of them to make the ramen more nutritious, tasty & filling. In the case of Maruchan's ramen, I tend to add a bit more soy sauce if I don't cook my noodles in broth. It makes the Maruchan Soy Sauce ramen have a more umami / earthy flavor & also it's a bit saltier that way. The Maruchan ramen dried noodles are also usable in other recipes (you might omit the seasoning packet depending on the recipe instructions). For example, some people crumble the uncooked noodles on top of salads to give them a crunchy topping like croutons. Packet ramen like Maruchan's also doesn't make a lot of waste to throw away (unlike the more expensive cup instant / quick cooking ramens). It's a bit more environmentally friendly when it's packaged in cellophane bags. But you will need a bowl to serve it in (if it's a microwaveable bowl, you can cook it in a microwave). It's handy to be able to order fast cooking instant ramen in case quantities & have them shipped to you so you can have plenty on hand in your pantry to prepare & serve quickly. That's probably where ordering from Amazon makes a lot of sense. Do watch for sales on ramen like Maruchan Soy Sauce Ramen & stock up when it's at the lowest prices, it is shelf stable & will keep for a long time.

I couldn’t eat ramen for years after college. To quote a friend, “It tastes like poverty.” All these years later, it is a comfort food. We won’t pretend it’s good for you. Let’s be honest: This qualifies as “Are you trying to die early? food.” However, sometimes you just want some salty goodness. I am old enough to remember when this flavor was called Oriental. They updated to the PC term soy sauce. Seems silly to me. Doesn’t taste like soy sauce anymore than banana candy tastes like banana. (Also, who eats banana candy?) This is my favorite flavor and Maruchan is the best ramen brand. (Fight me, Nissan.) Also, I have POTS. If you’re ‘lucky’ enough to need to supplement salt instead of account, Soy Sauce ramen by Maruchan is the way to go.
