Can you use a sharpie marker or will it bleed through?

If you write quick enough I doubt it would bleed thru. I use fountain pens and the pages are thick enough that they don't bleed thru. If I color something in or go over the same line a few times it does. I would give it a try

What is the saying on the front of the book?

Sorry, I do not know the language it is written in. However, the book is absolutely gorgeous, almost too pretty to use.
