If cut it would have exposed wiring possibly leading to a short. Remove the liner, run the wire down the hood and up the fender. Because the lead from the switch to the battery is a little short the whole install took a little longer than it should have, but still not difficult. Really lights up the engine bay at night and gives it an overall more refined look! I've only had it installed for about two months and so far the adhesion seems fine.
