(Updated Review) Fantastic TV after the price drop
[01/20/2023] Update] Sony representative has got back to me about my support ticket, and they decided to exchange the tv with a new set. I will update the review to 4/5 stars for now, and if the replacement set solves the high pitched whine issue I will update review back to 5/5. [01/16/2023 Update] So two months went by with this TV, and it ended up developing an ear piercing high pitch whine from the back of the panel. Everything still works and the picture quality is great, but the noise is really annoying when TV volume is set low. Fortunately I don't have any pets, because the noise would drive them mad. I opened up a support ticket with Sony and provided videos with the sound as best as possible with a phone microphone, but they just keep doing the, "We are reviewing your case, we'll get back to you in 2-3 business days with a solution," run around every 2-3 business days. Hopefully they will resolve this issue, but until then the review will be 2 stars for slow support. [Original Review] I have purchased this TV for two things: One, I needed to upgrade to a 4K TV to watch movies on. And two, a TV to compliment the PS5. It didn't disappoint. One thing to get out there right way is this TV isn't an automatic plug and play 4K VRR for the new consoles. You have to make sure that after plugging the console into HDMI 2.1 supported port, you go into HDMI port settings and do the following: If you connect a video game console that supports 4K 120 Hz video output, set to [Enhanced format (4K120, 8K)]. If you connect a video game console that supports VRR, set to [Enhanced format (VRR)]. If you don't configure it, then the console will not utilize VRR or HDR. That is the only thing that took a few minutes to read up and setup, the rest of the TV operation is very smooth. The dark levels are very deep, and the panel has plenty of brightness. In fact, the screen is so bright, I had to turn it down from it's default values, so the HDR range is very good. 4K movies look fantastic, especially when watching UHD Blu Rays. The cons, there aren't many, but here we go: only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, and if you are using external audio system you are left with 1 usable 2.1 port for a console. They should've made ARC/eARC on port 1 or 2, instead of 3. Maybe eARC requires HMDI 2,1 spec, I don't know, but it is a drawback that you are left with one open 2.1 port for a console when there are two consoles on the market that support it. Another would be that it uses Google Android based OS, so you have to configure all the privacy settings to limit activity tracking the OS does. Unfortunately, activity tracking, is the belly of the beast these days when it comes to Smart TVs, regardless of OS used or manufacturer. Overall, a fantastic TV set for the money now that Sony dropped the price. OLED would be of course better, but if you are looking to save a few hundred dollars and still get fantastic picture quality this TV set is worth it.

Beautiful picture & sound - well worth the price
This review is for the Sony 85 Inch 4K Ultra HD TV X90K Series: BRAVIA. The TV arrived on schedule. Amazon gave regular updates as it made it way to the house. Signature was required at the door. Accepted the free unboxing option, which was much easier than attempting it solo on this enormous TV. Also made it easier to measure for wall mount and lift with a buddy later. First off, the picture quality is beautiful. Colors are easily tuned to any taste in settings. This has mini array backlighting, not the micro arrays, so it’s not as capable of powering through a bright sunlit room. But if you keep sunny windows from reflecting off the screen directly to you, it’s perfectly bright. Other reviewers have commented on too much diffuse reflection coming from the anti-reflection coating on the screen. I can see where this comes from, but it’s not that objectionable. We have a sheer curtain covering the adjacent patio door, and brightness is set to “Max” - works fine. At night, when most people watch, the screen is plenty bright. In terms of contrast ratios and the darkness of black in images, I find it perfectly deep without bloom/bleeding to gray. This is also very dependent on the content being viewed. All lot of movies & shows suffer from re-production or re-broadcasting quality issues, especially when it’s compressed via your cable box provider. Saw others complain about the viewing angle, but again not an OLED, and I found that by the time you start seeing the LCD decolonization you’re at such an oblique angle that watching the screen from that position is unpleasant anyways. No issues with the internal speakers for sound, richness and frequency range are great out of the box. Can’t comment on the external speaker 3D surround tuning software on board - don’t need it right now. Plug & Play for peripheral ports (HDMI, USB, Network) all worked fine. TV even gave recommendations to change to a different port for better performance of the particular device. I like that you can select whether external devices can turn on the TV - can be a jarring late night surprise. Bottom line is this Sony is a great buy for less than half the price of OLEDs, and it is 85” !!! I mean, geez, it’s huge - plan your wall placement accordingly. Plant a chair in front of it and you’ll never go to the movies again ;)

Excellent TV
Love this TV. Upgraded from a not-so-great cheap TCL Roku TV, so it's not surprising that this is a huge step up. Build quality is good, I appreciate the heavy metal "feet" stands that the TV rests on, since I'm unable to mount my TV to the wall. Might get an adjustable stand later though. With the 65" model, having two people made setup much easier. Image quality is awesome, and I was able to get nice colors with a little bit of fiddling with the picture presets. I'm using a tweaked movie preset for warmer colors since out-of-the-box was quite cool and harsh on the eyes. Sound is surprisingly okay for being a flat screen TV. Out-of-the-box the sound is much too tinny and bright, with "S" sounds being a bit piercing to my ears, and barely any low end was present. Adjusting the EQ to turn up the low end and turn down the high end (making a downward slope) sounds pretty okay. Still going to upgrade to a proper speaker setup later... Features of the TV OS are nice as well. Android TV has a nice selection of apps, and the voice search on the remote is used often for figuring out what streaming services have the movie or TV show we want to watch. Overall, it's excellent. A few things that could be upgraded for a better experience, but fantastic where it counts with just a little tweaking.

Has been riddled with problems since the day it arrived. First the sound, then the white lines. Just a pain to keep dealing with Sony service center and lose my TV for weeks at a time. Not what I expected, and i'm wondering if this is an exception or not.

The picture and sound is excellent. It feels like your right in the action. The remote is intuative and easy to use without looking and having to move your finger all over. The buttons are all close together. The operating system is easy to navigate and you have access to a lot of Apps and Streaming Services. The only negatives are the onboard web browser is very basic and you have to go thru another app to find the Google web browser. I just downloaded another web browser and it works much better. Im not an expert by any means on web browsers but i went thru the app menu and downloaded the Puffin browser and the Odin browser. They work much better than the original app to Google. My usb wireless keyboard works fine with the operating system but my usb wireless mouse does not. The mouse is visible and moves around but you cant click on anything. I have to move the app mouse around with the remote and its kind of awkward. I dont know if I need a true bluetooth keyboard and mouse to have full use of the system, but at this point only the keyboard works. But other than that it operates just like my laptop and im able to use it instead of my laptop most of the time.
