## Description

desertcart.com: Master Tailgaters 10.5" OEM Rear View Mirror with 4.3" LCD Screen + Dimming + Compass & Temperature | Rearview Universal Fit | Auto Adjusting Brightness LCD | Anti Glare | Original Mirror Replacement : Automotive

Review: Highly recommended - The good: The manufacturing quality of this mirror is amazing. It's absolutely OEM - i.e., the quality that you would expect in a high-end vehicle. The flawlessness of the mirror glass itself, it's sensors, buttons & the auto-dimming function is outstanding. The compass & temp LEDs are clear, not-too-bright & in the right spot. The video screen is completely hidden until it turns on. The included mirror-mounting hardware and cable-routing / cable-hiding components are top notch. It also includes a temperature sensor at the end of a very long cable that you can route anywhere on the underside or front or back of the vehicle. Nice. Remote control is fine / quality. You can calibrate the temperature by 9 degrees, and you can calibrate the compass. You can turn the gridlines on or off. Did I mention this mirror is OEM quality?? It's really, really nice. Unit includes everything you need except for a camera. It was straight-forward to wire (I used a tap-a-fuse cable going into the radio fuse in the fuse box to have it function along with the radio). The bad: They should probably include a rear-view camera in this bundle / i.e., this, which is currently their top-end unit (They have to know that rear-view cameras are the number one reason people are buying this mirror, right? But it's not a big deal, it would just be nice to know that you have *everything* you need out of the box. Especially for first-time installers of this setup. But I digress. Let me continue...) The menu is only accessible via the wireless remote (so don't lose it!). The temperature gauge on mine is reading the outside air much higher than the actual ambient temperature (I have it mounted inside the engine compartment so I need to change locations to be sure it's not the engine temp that is causing this artificially high reading. But even when the car has been parked outside for hours, it still reads very high.) The compass is very hard to calibrate: You have to drive in a 5-meter circle (??) for 3 full rotations, at slower-than-walking-speed, to calibrate it. (My manual Jeep doesn't go that slow. Maybe I should push it! So I need to calibrate it again as it's not accurate. It seems to be off about 20-30 degrees from the actual direction I'm aiming in). The video has flicker (but I suspect this has to do with the camera and where I've routed the RCA cable in the car - i.e., near power and audio cables - more so than this has anything to do with the video screen itself. The menu on the video screen does NOT flicker - so again, it looks like this has to do with the video cable of the camera itself). Summary: I highly recommend this mirror! It was more expensive than most other units, but came with all the features I desired (and more) - and the quality was just outstanding! Competing units I researched had *terrible* grades on (F)akespot(dotcom) about their user reviews, so I was very fortunate to find this unit. If you are on the fence - go for it. It's a great unit!
Review: Helps me see what's behind me in many ways - I wanted to install a backup camera in my 2011 Ridgeline, but didn't want to replace the stereo. I purchased this mirror because it has auto-dimming and two inputs for the video (I wanted rear and front cameras, but that's another review). Brief review: The screen is bright and sharp for its size. It auto-adjusts to ambient light, but you can manually adjust it too. The compass is a hassle to calibrate accurately, but it works. The temperature sensor works just fine. (Either/Both can be disabled.) The mirror is solidly built, looks OEM, and is working flawlessly after 10,000 miles of use. Here's a more detailed review: Installation: - Although your windshield mount may work, I had to replace the Honda windshield mount with the one that came with the mirror. A local auto glass place did it for me in less than 10 minutes. The mirror mounted on it securely with no wiggles. - I added a separate add-a-circuit fuse to power the mirror to protect it. If a camera shorts, I don't want it to cause the rest of the mirror functions to fail. Setup: -The instructions are a bit thin, but if you've done other wiring jobs you can do this yourself. Otherwise get a friend or watch some videos from others who have installed things like this in your particular vehicle. Pros: -Visibility is as good as a regular mirror. During the daytime or nighttime, you can't see the screen when it is off. -Auto-dimming works rapidly and well. Love it. Also, settings are adjustable and you can easily turn it off on the mirror. -Two inputs mean a forward facing camera can be installed. The reverse camera comes on automatically. And, although you can turn the front camera off from the mirror, I installed a separate switch so it wouldn't come on each time I started the truck. -the adjustable guidelines are worth taking the time to setup accurately. I suggest using an empty parking lot with freshly painted lines. -install the temp sensor as far forward on your vehicle as possible, preferably low behind the front bumper. The included wiring is sufficiently long. -the compass is internal, so that installation is easy. It's calibration that is tricky (see below). Cons: -The backup gridlines are great, but have a "check surroundings..." warning sentence on the top of the screen. It would be fine if it turned off after a few seconds, but it doesn't and therefore blocks your view of objects in the top of the camera's vision. The only solution is to use the remote to turn off the guidelines completely. Not a good choice. -The compass is difficult to calibrate accurately. Sometimes it shows NW or SW when I know I'm going due W. You have to drive in circle VERY SLOWLY several times to calibrate it. Make sure you are far from power lines and buildings. Eventually, I got it calibrated and compensated. Seems to work well now. -The included remote is tiny, but it works. It has buttons that are for other models. The instructions are pathetically anemic. But, if you are patient and remember your middle school geometry you can adjust the backup guidelines. If you're comfortable taking your time, you can install this in a way that looks like it came from the factory. I like that my older truck has a backup camera for safety, and also front camera for off-road use. I recommend this whole heartedly.

## Features

- OEM MIRROR: Master Tailgaters rear view mirrors completely replace your original rearview mirror! There is an included bracket that works with many popular vehicles like Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, GM, etc. If your vehicle is a different make, don't worry-- a universal windshield button style mount is included which allows this unit to be installed on all vehicles. To install, you may need an adapter.
- LCD SCREEN: The mirror is 10.5", with a 4.3" ultra high brightness TFT LCD screen that automatically turns on to display the rear view image when your vehicle is put in reverse. It is twice as bright as standard mirrors, and the LCD display sensor adjusts the screen's brightness to the ambient light so it's easier to see, brighter when it's light outside and dimmer when it's dark out. There are also adjustable guidelines for added safety, which can be adjusted using the included remote.
- TWO VIDEO INPUTS: With 2 video RCA inputs, you are able to display 2 different types of images. One connects to video and the other connects to a backup camera (not included).
- COMPASS AND TEMPERATURE: This rear view mirror is equipped with a built-in compass and an environment sensor, which displays the outside temperature in the upper right corner. HIGH QUALITY AUTO DIMMING MIRROR: This rear view mirror is equipped with auto dimming, so the mirror itself dims automatically, giving you a clear view of your surroundings at night by reducing the glare from blinding headlights. Our rear view mirror's glass is 4mm thick, making it clear and distortion-free.
- CONNECT TO BACKUP CAMERA: The rearview mirror plugs into most backup cameras with RCA Inputs (Backup Camera Sold Separately). All parts needed for installation are included and easy to set up!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How does the thermometer work if your car doesn't have one from the factory?**
A: There is an additional cable not pictured for the temp sensor. Thanks!

**Q: I'm assuming I can add a front camera as well as a back up camera - I'd just need to add a switch to turn it on.off?**
A: Yes this accepts both front and backup camera. You dont need a switch. It will auto turn to backup camera when in reverse. For front camera, press the button to turn it on.thanks

**Q: Is there a way to turn off the guide lines (my camera already adds them so I have two sets of guide lines with this display).**
A: Yes you can. Under menu, scale, turn scale to off and the grid lines will turn off

**Q: will this work with a BMW 320i?**
A: This will work but you will lose any functions from your current mirror. I don't know if your specific model has the red motion detector etc. This includes a universal mount for the glass.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Overall a good, unintrusive way to add backup cam to a vehicle without
*by J***Y on May 13, 2025*

Good: *Retains all OEM functions (auto dimming, compass, outside temp) *Overall OEM look & feel *Backup display is *very* bright & clear *Decent instructions Not so good: *Overall build feels a bit "cheaper" than OEM, joints have some splay in them and & the function button feels "loose" -- it does seem to hold its position so far, however *There is a yellowish/brownish tint to the mirror that isn't present in the OEM Gentex mirror *The mirror seems to have less vertical adjustment, or maybe mounts lower than the OEM mirror. I can *just* get it high enough to be in my sight line *Screen resolution is so-so. Picture is nice and bright but can be pixelated due to the resolution of the display. Its enough to see most objects but not great detail Overall a great product for someone like me who doesn't want to replace their head unit (or "radio") with a model with a display screen. The actual installation of the mirror isn't too hard, wires can generally be tucked up into the headliner, and for most vehicles it should fit the stock mirror mount. Power and signal wires can all be pretty easily run through the A-pillars down to the dashboard in most cars. The only connections needed for the mirror itself are a switched power source (you can bundle it with your head unit's red wire), and a signal wire. The signal wire should be run from your reverse light circuit, so putting the vehicle into reverse "triggers" the backup display to come on. I tapped into the wiring coming from the reverse light relay under the hood, rather than running a wire through the frame back to the tailights.
