ROBERTS 12" Carpet Rake and Groomer with 51" Handle

Unbelievable, fantastic tool! I never knew this even existed. I bought it in a last ditch attempt to make my carpet look better and wow, was I surprised. It revived my carpet in conjunction with a carpet cleaning and the results were absolutely stellar. We thought we would need to buy new carpet, but no way after using this. It fixed the high-traffic areas and made the steam cleaning with a Bissell machine so much easier. Our carpet looks like new.

I’ve been ready to rip my carpet up it’s so flat, matted, and ugly and it’s less than 3 years old! I ran across a video on TikTok from a professional carpet cleaner but he used a more expensive brand. After reading reviews on both I decided to give this one a shot. Worst case scenario, I was out $18. It was delivered at 8:30 pm last night but I could not wait to try it! I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use (pull it in towards yourself, don’t try to push it forward). I tested a small area that gets the highest traffic. It may be hard to tell from the pictures but it looks almost new again. There was a very small, VERY flat area in the carpet that didn’t come back up much, but I’ll take it! My only concern is the durability of the handle. It seems a bit flimsy but I will update my review as I’ve used it more and done the whole house! If it can do my entire house then it’s money well spent!

This works pretty good, though I am still suspicious of the plastic tines. It is a lot of work to get hair up, you have to go over the same areas multiple times. I put it up against my rubber bristled carpet rake today and I wrote about it later in this review. For some context, I have very long hair and it sheds constantly. I have carpeted stairs and three carpeted bedrooms and it's almost impossible to get the hair pulled up without a vacuum that has a spinning beater brush. The beater brush gets tangled up. I've burnt out motors on vacuums before so I never feel good about posting up big money for a proper large vacuum that might be able to handle it. I also don't have the strength, or the space for a big hog of a vacuum. I have a little cordless vacuum and while I am diligent about cleaning out the beater brush, it's not enough because my hair is long, and thick, and there is too much of it! I totally obliterated the brush on my newest little cordless and I am so sad. I already have one of those rubber bristled carpet rakes, and I had been using it but it is EXHAUSTING trying to use it to pull the hair out of the carpets before doing a proper vacuum. I have a little tiny canister vacuum that has been running strong since the day I bought it, but using it on the carpets is the same sweeping raking struggle to pull up the hair. So i thought I would save on the noise and electricity of a vacuum by using carpet rakes first. It takes so much effort. Today I used this Roberts carpet rake and then I used my rubber bristle rake. The Roberts rake can skim over the top of the carpet easier, with less struggle, than the rubber bristle brush. It also actually lifts up the carpet fibers (my carpets are very dense, but they are old and have been in this house since the 80s at least) so it's kind of nice to walk over the floor and experience it being lofty and bouncy before it quickly packs back down, haha But it seems like the rubber bristle rake actually pulls up more hair, like it can get a better grip on it and hold on. I went back over the same area I had already done about 3 times with the Roberts and pulled out significantly more hair (it's depressing that there is that much of my dang hair in the rug, how am I not bald yet? I do this regularly!) So, I don't know. It is easier to use, but you have to work it longer to get everything up. I was hoping to get rid of the rubber rake, but I think I'll have to keep both. TLDR; Roberts fluffs up the carpet, but rubber pulls up more hair.

This was fast and easy to put together and use. Though it didn’t remove any hair (I think my vacuum does just fine with that every few days), it did penetrate the carpet well. The bristles are not soft or rubbery like other brands, they are hard and sturdy. I used this to help pretreat my carpet with carpet cleaner before washing it and it made a big difference this time around!

I like this rake as it has a 3 piece handle. As it turns out there are places like stairs where the full length handle is awkward to use. The only concern I have is how well the combs will hold up. My previous rake (well over 10 years old) had combs that were a little bit more rigid and they never broke, they simply wore down a little from use so I thought it was time to replace. So far I haven't had any issues with the new one and it seems to rake the carpet well. So it's unfair to say it won't hold up long term. I'll update the review in a couple of months after I've had chance to use it around the house on all the carpets and rugs. BTW, a carpet rake is a great tool. I've never had one rip out any threads etc and they absolutely do bring the spring back into carpets and rugs. I also found that if I vacuum a carpet/rug and them rake, just before I use my Bissel carpet shampooer, that really helps a huge deal in cleaning deep. I should also note I have not tried a rake on a shag pile carpet. So I cannot say if it would work on one of those. UPDATE: After 2 weeks usage I docked 2 stars. The rake does work and works well but the 3 part handle locking design is a really poor design. Considering the effort you need to rake a carpet, no way this handle would hold up for long. In my case, the top section on mine keeps popping out. I've tried tightening more but too much effort and it pops out also. Maybe I just have a "bad" one. This looks like a standard handle thread so I may look around for a better handle elsewhere but for what the product is, without a solid working handle, it's not what it's advertised to be.

After a couple of years, my new carpet began looking flat in some of the more high traffic areas. I had resigned myself to trying to cover it with rugs and eventually get new carpet. I searched around looking for products to help and stumbled upon someone recommending a carpet rake. It sounded kind of ridiculous and I was worried it would further damage the carpet, but decided to give it a shot anyways. I kid you not, within 20 seconds my flat, sad looking carpet looked brand new. I proceeded to do all the other areas, including the stairs. This thing is truly amazing and is simple and very fast to use. I did my whole staircase in about 5 minutes with very little effort. I don't know how I've never heard of carpet rakes before, but everyone with carpet should own one of these. Also great if you like those post-vacuum lines but can never get them as straight as you'd like. ; )

This thing feels cheap, but it does the job. Makes carpet look fluffy and new. Obviously a high quality vacuum will do the same thing, but a vacuum is noisy, and it can't always reach deep into small corners and such. It's also difficult to vacuum stairs. This thing will fluff up the carpet on your stairs just as well as everything else.

I wanted to love this product. It had great reviews. But I was very disappointed. It is very easy to put together. It does pull up the pile, but no more than what a mediocre or better vacuum cleaner would. I have a dog the sheds, but I didn’t see any pet hair come up. However, it was there when I vacuumed after I used the rake. The pile goes back down as soon as you walk on the carpet. The product feels flimsy. Definitely pull gently. Bristles are plastic and look like they could break easily. I will be returning this.

I was honestly really sceptical about this and whether it would be able to help me bring my carpet back to life. It is probably considered medium pile carpet and there's a lot of areas where traffic visibly compacted it, and neither my vacuum nor carpet shampooer could revive it. Definitely takes some elbow grease but this worked very well and so much better than I expected it to!

This carpet rake is fantastic and has made such a difference to my carpets. It lifts flattened fibres with ease, brings the pile back to life, and even helps remove embedded pet hair before vacuuming. It’s sturdy, easy to use, and leaves my carpets looking fresh and well-maintained. A brilliant little tool that I’d highly recommend.

I recently discovered this product when I was trying to work out a way to bring our living room carpet back to new after cleaning it. You do need to put in some physical effort but the results are brilliant and the carpet looks amazing and it feels even nicer to walk on. Loving this product.
