Great idea, studing adv D, but great fun to learn words or reinforce vocab. Excellent explanations for beginners. TRY THIS! I'm over 50, broke out the art supplies and notebook. FUN!

Dictionaries are normally just words, but at least this has pictures for each word and you can color them. AND I emphasize "you" since my artistic skills deserted me in the second grade. The German vocabulary words are grouped by subject, which makes it interesting to just randomly turn to a page and learn some words. They do list the article of the nouns, which is very important to getting adjective endings correct. The contents are mostly nouns, with only two sections on adjectives and verbs and one of adverbs, which to me was a bit sparse. Adverbs are the spice of a language and I am still coming to terms with them in German. But it is not really a grammar book, although it does start out a ten page outline of basic grammar. All in all, a useful way to learn a basic German vocabulary, as long as you remember to learn the gender of each noun.

I’ve done some other work with Lucas Kern. He makes learning a new language fun, especially after struggling through three $100+ classes to the intermediate level. The picture dictionary reinforces practical language uses with imagery that can be readily recalled. Definitely color the pictures since the whole process integrates what you’re learning. Despite my lack of mastery, I can still be conversant with native German speakers, such as my daughter's exchange student friend. We have a planned trip next year to Germany. Coupled with Kern’s instruction and belonging to a German social club in New Orleans—Deutsches Haus—I’m confident that I can speak with native Germans and enhance my visit.

This an easy to follow entertaining book that will review your basic vocabulary of the language. It will not make you fluent or advance your knowledge. It is a very basic book. While reviewing your vocabulary you can calm your nerves by coloring the plates offered in the book.

I got this book for 2 reasons: 1. I’m a tactile learner, so colouring in vocab words as I learn them will help me retain the info better 2. It said it included the articles of each word, which I’ve been struggling with (basically is the word masculine/feminine/neuter) This book surprised me in the BEST way because it went BEYOND what it claimed!! The intro to the book breaks down articles, how they undergo declension, adjectives, verbs, consonants, and so much more… even the diphthongs..!! On top of that, there is a very detailed table of contents. Each “section” is broken down with similar types, and is followed by a fun little quiz to assess your retention. (With an answer sheet at the back of the book to check your work!) I love this so much; it’s gone above and beyond my expectations, and I am genuinely enjoying being able to use this book to supplement my shortcomings in my language learning app. I’ll be using their other books for other languages, and I sincerely hope they create more advanced versions to use as a refresher as I advance.

As I learn new vocabulary (I'm self-teaching with duolingo, books, podcasts, youtube videos) I like to color in the words: yellow/tan for neuter, red/pink for feminine, and blues for masculine. As I'm using the words in sentences, I remember the color I used to color in the picture and it really helps me remember gender. I like the grammatical charts and reminders in the book.
