The Cell Chef Cookbook

Purchased this to be mailed to an inmate in Idaho. It was a surprise gift and he absolutely loved it! He and his buddies have already tried the no-bake oatmeal/PB bars and they turned out great. They are trying the Strawberry Cheesecake next, as they can get all the stuff for it. I would recommend that before anyone buy this for an inmate, they find out what kind of stuff is available at their specific prison's commissary. Commissary varies greatly depending on whether it's a state or federal facility, and also the inmates security level. Unless their commissary is restricted to almost being useless, most of these recipes can be modified easily enough to use what's available at a specific prison. The author and publisher have no control over what prisons may or may not offer on commissary. But, I can tell you that the recipes work well for Idaho inmates at ISCC in Boise. Anything you can do to help a loved one break the diet of high-in-sodium ramen, is doing their health a favor.

I sent this book to my guy in prison so he could supplement the horrible meals. I was amazed at how much joy it gave him and the other fellas in the unit. They are pooling resources to prepare a Christmas feast from the possibilities in the book and have already tried out a couple of the dessert recipes. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has a loved one behind bars because it has truly brightened the morale of people living in a dark world.

This was a gift. Shipped directly to inmate. (When it arrived he needed to bring the invoice with price to pick it up or else it would have been returned). He stood there thumbing through it in amazement. Then showed it off as he walked through the place and everyone wanted to see it.I highly recommend this book for your loved ones who are incarcerated as long as they purchase food items off commissary.

According to my partner, this might not be the best book for a seasoned inmate. The recipes won't really be new to someone who's been around. It would definitely be good for someone newer to the system though. I personally like the cover illustration more than any other prison cookbook I've seen.

If you have a child or relative in prison this is a nice way to maintain a healthy relationship. We both make things from the book and write to each other about it. Food in prison can be molded at times so this book can save the person from going hungry.

So upset, boyfriend was looking so forward to receiving this book and it got rejected by the staff. Florida Prison. There's supposedly a blacklist of DOC FL books, still haven't found it. It was rejected for possibility causing a riot and for encouraging rules to be broken.

It had most of the dishes that inmates currently make. Although good, but nothing new. Appears to be written by someone that wasn't in prison, but collected information from those that were in order to assemble the book.

Not really a great reason to need it other than needing it for someone incarcerated unfortunately. My son requested the book and loves it! Used it first day. Very useful and resourceful. He greatly appreciated it.
