how much weight can the bag hold?

Not sure of exact weight capacity but it easily held half of a 10 pound turkey with broth and veggies.

Sooo, your question is? I assume your concern is about refreezing a zipper bag 2-3 times? You understand that these zipper bags, even if freezer-rated, are generally designed for single use only? Also, water, in whatever form, does expand when frozen; a unique property compared to other substances. I would expect that the repeated refreezing of water-based items in any given plastic bag would induce wear and tear and weakening of the plastic, much like the repeated re-pressurization of aircraft hulls (case in point: the near-disaster of the Aloha Airlines' Boeing 737 in the 1980s).

Are these big enough to fit a cornish cross rooster? 8-10 lbs.

I believe that a whole Costco rotisserie-roasted chicken will fit in these 2 gal. bags, as a point of reference. I'm not familiar with cornish cross roosters.

BOY!!! DO I LOVE THIS SIZE!

I love the size of these bags. I think they are so great; I give them away to friends and family as one of my neat finds. Just last night I took a 35-lb bag of dogfood and split it up into these smaller size bags because they seal, and the dogfood bags don't seal. I think it will keep the dry dogfood fresher (if that is possible). Plus, by putting into the smaller bags, they are soooo much more manageable. Perfect for documents and manuals where the 1-gallon size is just a tad bit small. Especially useful for tractor manuals. Protects them from the weather so I can keep them with the equipment. They probably work great for food too!

Thicker than cheaper bags.

Nice large bags for storing your flour sugar or cereal box in to help cut down any pests (as in ants or roaches not thick enough to prevent mice or rats!!). I put a dessicant pack in each also and so far that works well. Place bagged items in a Rubbermaid tub (or similar) and usually rats leave that alone. If not you have bigger problems than food storage!! But these are great bags. Pricey yes but big and again thicker than most. Easily reused for my purposes. Bet they're great in the freezer. Shop around in price.

Size is AWESOME!!

I LOVE the 2 GALLON size. SOMETIMES, you just need BIGGER, like when I make my sisters special birthday mix (grandmas mix)!! She is gonna be ECSTATIC next June!! Nice thickness, can also freeze things in them.

Good solid bags but they are of a purple tint and not clear!

These bags are lovely and will be quite useful but I would have liked to know that they are not clear. One cannot match colors for crafts through a purple tinted bag!
