Q: Can the key be removed in the on position. I'm trying to develop a safety system for a common shop, and need the machine shut off if the key is out.

Q: Can the keys be duplicated at my local hardware store?

Yes you can take it to any location that cuts keys.

Q: If I buy 2 are they keyed differently?

I have bought 3 of these at different times and they all had the same key. But I can't guaranty it.
