Great lawn edging tool, with hedge trimmer, worth every penny
Superb hedge & grass trimming tool. Blades super sharp, fast cutting. Ok on hedge trimming for small areas. I have some by my front door below the window 3ft deep by about 6ft wide. It copes but anything more would be irksome having to do that regularly. The tough branch feature is worth its weight though, it just keeps on hacking away until it cuts through, without jamming or damaging itself. The grass trimmer is perfect for me. Edging is easy. There is an optional long handle you can also buy that reaches the lawn without having to bend down, or up to the top of a fence or tree. I had been using a strimmer to edge my 50ft lawn but this was damaging the grass and my timber raised beds. This trimmer does the job almost as quick, but without damage, and gives a far neater appearance. I had tried a cheaper brand, which is still working, but chews the grass instead of cutting it, after a short period of use. I may use that one now as a cordless 'rotavator' to break up compacted soil on my embanked flowerbed. 45minutes charging is no problem for me - the time I take to mow the lawn and tidy up, the tool has recharged. I like that it has a lithium ion battery, meaning I do not have to fully charge or discharge the battery every time I use it. I insist all of my chordless tools have this now, having had to replace power tools where the ni cad battery had 'memorised' and become useless. The safety switch can be operated either left or right handed, if you have a Bosch drill it is right where you'd expect to find the forward/reverse switch, under your thumb. The case is quite handsome too. Made from a thin neoprene type material, but a fairly rigid moulding, covered in a satinised black fabric with zip closing along three sides. Large enough to accommodate the tool both attachments and battery charger, with room to spare. The battery is built in to the handle, non removable. Being lithium ion it is going to last as long as the tool, so no need to be replacable. Service charge is indicated by leds on the handle but thus far I have not discharged the battery enough to come off its highest state of charge, because it does what I need from it so quickly. Tbh I saw more powerful tools than this one before I bought it. It is easily powerful enough. I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

Just the job!
I've been using the shears for a few weeks and I'm pleased with my purchase. With little real guidance on possible "best buys" - given the diversity of opinions of reviewers of various similar products - I decided to go for a familiar brand name albeit the shears had a higher price than several competitors. I have to agree with some other users in that the shears seem a little under powered but, that said, they have dealt effectively with the jobs tackled. My main need was for a tool that made light work of trimming lawn edges. I used to rely on a strimmer (which if used carefully worked well) but recent sight loss made that approach a "no no". The shears take a little more time but they cut very well and are precise, so a definite win. The hedge trimmer is fine for tackling light growth on shrubs and bushes, and I was impressed when the cutters met a thicker stem - it just paused, made a few chops and moved on undaunted. Another win. Working time from a single charge (some thing over an hour) has proved adequate for my needs. The two attachments are easy to fit and remove, and I have no problems with pressing the blade lock buttons (one each side of the main unit for both left and right handed operation) while using the start/stop trigger. The blade units are easy the clean but I think I might need to buy some plant resin solvent, WD40 doesn't quite do the job. The quality of the storage case goes some way to justify the kit's purchase and the free Bosch 3 year extended warranty is a bonus. All in all a good piece of kit which I can recommend.

Great grass shears but not cheap.
Just got this today. I bought it for the grass shears really and I'm pretty impressed. Tried long handled shears and garden scissor-type manual things. Although expensive, it reminded me of seeing farmers shearing sheep and almost as rapid. For years I've hated not being able to get to the bits that the mower can't reach and really just can't get on with strimmers at all. Today I've been round the all the edges and the base of a tree. Only a small thing but looks so much tidier. The hedge trimmer is strictly for new/green growth or tidying up after using a full sized trimmer. I knew it wouldn't be great but it is prettymuch a waste of time hence one star off. One point worth clearing up; yes, you have to press the safety catch in to get the trigger working but providing you don't then release the trigger it will carry on chopping WITHOUT having to continue holding the safety button in. The hedge trimmer I have is also a Lithium charged Bosch with the anti-jam technology. Had it a few seasons now and have really abused it but its still good. I have no reason to doubt this will be any different. I really enjoyed using this although after about fifteen minutes the vibration gets a bit much for my hand. I agree with some that say the ergonomics of the hand grip could be better but it's fine really. It's an easy job and done quickly so not a problem. What surprised me was how much dead thatch the grass shears revealed lurking in corners and whatnot. If like me you're sick of seeing that elusive fringe of fronds that the mower can't get to after a run round this may be the answer. I'm certainly glad I spent the money. MR

Perfect handy little addition tothe garden tools!
This little edging shear/hedge trimmer has been a great tool so far. Providing you pick the correct attachment, it will happily deal with edging lawns, dead-heading, reshaping shrubs and even facing up leylandii hedging. It had no trouble dealing with this year's growth on buddleia, forsythia, spirea, bay-leafed laurel. The battery really lasts, too - with all the stop/start of gardening, I can bodge about the garden with it for a couple of hours doing bits here and there, swapping the attached tools as and when needed. The claimed duration for continuous use seems about right. This version is very light and easy to wield - there is a further model with bigger battery capacity that adds weight. The charging connector is a very snug fit - yes, it uses a 'phone-style' charger plug, but the actual connector is unique, so don't think that spare USB cable will do. I like the storage case, though, and the 2yr Bosch warranty extension if the tool is registered online. The Bosche website has some excellent support, too, with exploded diagrams, maintenance advice and a very easy way to click purchase any bits should they be needed. Obviously, tougher, more woody growth will stop it, but that's why I have a proper set of hedge trimmers with a 76cm blade that can tackle branches up to maybe an inch diameter. I won't be trying to trim my 8ft-high 100ft-long leylandii hedges with it, but for jobs where those big hedge (more like tree) trimmers are just unwieldy, these little ones are spot-on, (and that includes a spot of occasional trimming in between the full jobs looking after those hedges).

Nifty little garden trimmer.
I'm disabled/wheelchair user and need easy to use lightweight gardening tools. I stumbled upon this Bosch trimmer while looking at strimmers. I read reviews, compared price, battery life, etc. And this was the better option when you are on a budget, that doesn't mean it's a cheap item nor inferior, as it's neither of these. Battery life up to 40 minutes, it's not a heavy duty hedge trimmer, it will not go through those thicker branches you'd use a full size model on. Trying to cut thick branches will damage the trimmer. It will trim box hedges no problem. It will trim your garden border hedges but on thinner branches easily and it's speedy. Trims new growth easy. Cuts grass quickly and with ease, use to dead-head your plants at end of season. I do struggle to switch blades though and attaching charger, that's my only issue on this trimmer. That's not a design flaw, it's a disability issue. Would I recommend this trimmer, oh boy yes I would. It's lightweight, and comes with its own storage box and instructions. Well worth buying.

Great little trimmer, low torque and off balance.
I bought this to trim some bushes and a little hedge. I have not tried the grass edging connector yet, will update review then. For the hedge trimming connector I gave 4 stars, taking one star off for; *The weight distribution is off, the connected head is very very light, whereas the battery is the main part, which you hold and it is quite heavy, which leads to it being badly balanced and makes it difficult to use. * The power from the motor to the connected head is quite weak, and with something as light as lavender bushes it struggles, often suddenly stopping, leading to a jerking of the unit, which combined with the poor balance makes it , in my opinion, a bit dangerous, as nearly dropped it a few times due to it nearly jerking out of my hand. I think I am disappointed because Bosch is a good brand and expected a better level of performance and design. Positives; * It is compact and easy to store as it comes with its own case to store everything in. * It was quick to charge from the box, and has a clear indicator light that pulses red whilst charging and goes green when charged. * The heads are easy to attach, they clip onto the main body easily and come off easily for cleaning and storage. * Some may not see the following as a positive, but I do, especially given the poor torque of the motor...the hedge trimmer blades are inside a metal casing, the picture you see is of that fixed metal casing, the blades gold inside and cut between the lattice of the casing, meaning they are not exposed Düring storage. The downside of this is twofold... 1. They are impossible to get to to clean thoroughly or to sharpen them. I am not sure it is possible to remove the casing. 2. It limits the size of what you can cut,bto being something that fits with at least a 3 mm gap between the casings lattice, I would guess at nothing over 4 mm diameter can be cut... having said that I personally don't think the motor could cope with cutting anything thicker so it was probably mainly designed that way to stop people burning out the motor or snapping the fine blades inside the casing ( they act like scissors in the gap between the casing lattice when on, snap back into the casing when off). The overall performance is less than hoped for, I used to have a proper hedge trimmer, which was double handed and cut through hedges and shrubs like butter, so I may have been spoiled. I would say if you only have some light trimming to do, this will probably suit you. From a single charge I worked my way through 2 little hedges and 6 bushes and it was still charged when I tired it away so believe the battery life to be good. Note: The battery does not seem to be removable, so when it goes I assume you will have to buy a whole new set, although I could be wrong, I just cannot see how to get it out. If I do find out it can be replaced, I will update with indication of how and how much.

Perfect for keeping the wife out in the garden
There is nothing more my better half loves than working away outside in the garden. And as she's got about two dozen decorative box hedge features to trim and maintain - this little trimmer is perfect, with one caveat. The retained charge is a little 'light weight' in so far as it runs out of steam fairly fast! A little annoying but not too much so as it seems to charge reasonably quickly allowing her to use our many other Bosch garden tools [Blower, Strimmer, full size Trimmer etc.... ] whilst it recharges. If it was supplied with a separate battery that you could swap-out in the same way we can with our other Bosch tools that would be great but as it is only supplied with a built-in battery we're just have to grin and bear it. Or perhaps I will just get a second one for those odd occasions where waiting for a re-charge is less than desirable time-wise. If your after a small trimmer like this - go for it, though be prepared for the short battery run once in use. And a final point from the MiL ... even with her arthritic fingers she too enjoys popping round [oh - deep joy!] to help my wife in the garden as she finds this trimmer a doddle to use even with her old hands.
