You can gradually add the right amount of fumed silica to the liquid according to the needs of the liquid, and fully stir until uniform, in order to achieve the desired viscosity thickening effect.

Does this fumed silica powder thicken well?

This fumed silica works really well, and when I use epoxy resin, I add this fumed silica powder to the epoxy resin, and the epoxy thickens a lot. But please note that you'd better wear a protective mask when adding fumed silica, as silica powder is light and small and will be blown all over, it weighs nothing.

Just want to double check... can use this to strengthen gelcoat for fiberglass?

I think it would work. I use it to strengthen smooth pour for fish heads. It’s finely ground so I’m not sure if fiberglass powder would be better for you since would be stronger.

Does this fumed hydrophobic silica have insecticidal properties in a damp environment superior to diatomaceous earth?

They are very different things. I can't imagine Fumed Silica is as abrasive as diatomaceous earth, and that is what diatomaceous earth does to the exoskeleton of an insect, wear holes in it.
