It just clips to the bars. Once your puppy has grown you can remove it. **Q: Are these crates accepted by airline companies to transport dogs?** A: I don't think so, my friends dog had to use a crate provided by the carrier that was dealing with the transfer. **Q: Would the 36 inch crate fit a kelpie x cocker?** A: The 30 in length fits my Shih Tzu for eating and travelling. She can lie down comfortably and turn but it would be too restrictive for much moving around in. She eats her meals in it separately from the other dog because she is greedy! Firstly, don’t think ‘basics’ means it’s not the best quality because it’s exceptionally good and brilliant value for money. The 48” size is truly humongous and even though I’d measured the dimensions before buying I wasn’t prepared for how big it would be. The crate, which arrives collapsed (thankfully!) weights 48 lb or 21.7kg, so it’s very heavy. It assembles in under 2 mins and no tools are required. The door catches are a dream, smooth and secure and a divider is also included. I couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase. Because of the size Amazon delivered this item using Arrow XL, who I’d not heard of before. They were amazing! Loads of pre-delivery status updates, a two hour slot given the evening before l, live tracking available on the day and with a pre-delivery phone call when the courier is about half hour away and the crate was delivered within the notified time.
