From the New York Times bestselling author of Redeeming Love and The Masterpiece ―and “one of [Christian fiction’s] most honored and talented writers” ( Library Journal )―comes a heart-wrenching but uplifting story about a highly controversial topic. College student Dynah Carey knew where her life was headed. Engaged to a wonderful man, the daughter of doting parents, a faithful child of God―she has it all. Then the unthinkable happens: Dynah’s perfect life is irrevocably changed by a rape that results in an unwanted pregnancy. Her family is torn apart and her seemingly rock-solid faith is pushed to the limits as she faces the most momentous choice of her life: to embrace or to end the life within her. This is ultimately a tale of three generations of women, as Dynah’s plight forces both her mother and her grandmother to confront the choices they made. Written with balance and compassion, this family drama brings a new perspective to the widely debated topic of abortion. A moving Christian women’s fiction novel Poignant themes of wrestling with God, forgiveness, and redemption Explores sensitive topics in a thoughtful, nuanced manner Review: Great read - Such a good read. Story had me hooked from the beginning. Definitely would recommend! Review: And Then I Cried - I have loved everyone of Francine Rivers books, but this one I couldn't stop reading until I finished. Her walk with God is so very apparent in her books and this one deals with a young woman attending a Bible based college, who is raped one night after work and is faced with the aftermath when she discovers she is pregnant. Should she get an abortion or keep the baby, and the emotions it stirs up in all those around her. Through it all secrets come out, relationships change and decisions are questioned. What will Dyna do, and who, besides God, will stand beside her! The emotions in this book brought me to tears and then to smiles. If you are a Christian facing the decision to either have an abortion or keep the baby, you'll find the emotions and decisions enlightening!

Oh my goodness gracious
Wow. What more is there to say?! What a truly amazing, heart wrenching, inspiring, and accurate book. I think it’s so important in today’s age that we discuss these hard topics and wow does this book do this. It’s a craft of love and beauty. Intricately woven, each piece knitted together for a seamless finish. As someone who a year ago was not living in Christ and thought abortion was a good solution for people, God brought me back to him and slowly was changing my heart. And boy, did this book lovingly hold my heart and any questions I had left, this book was able to vanquish. This was such an amazing story. It showed the repercussions of our consequences so well, while also showing us the wonder of who God is. I thought with the portraying of Elizabeth in the office and her views on christianity/ her community church were so apt for today’s age. We are rallied against to accept abortion even in what are supposed to be, Christian groups and it was a beautiful portrayal of that. I cannot recommend this book enough. It was such a pleasure to read! It also was not condemning of people who had had abortions. It was just such a wonderful book!

4/5 rating for me!!
The Atonement Child is a captivating novel that draws readers in from the start, particularly through the harrowing experience of college student Dynah Carey, who becomes pregnant after a rape. The story explores the reactions of those around her, who attempt to rationalize that abortion is acceptable in her difficult situation. I found the book engaging and appreciated many of its poignant moments, but I was left feeling unsatisfied with the ending, which seemed hurried and did not align with my expectations. This is my second time reading a work by Francine Rivers, and while I would recommend it, I wish the conclusions of both books I’ve read were more developed. Nonetheless, others may still find value in the story.

My favorite from Francine Rivers so far!
I love how she writes real fiction interwoven with scripture. Every book I read is a spiritual experience with biblical reminders and teachings, with wonderful characters and story lines.

Wonderful book.
Francine Rivers never disappoints. She handled the topic of abortion in a factual way based on scripture. This book would be a great read for young people who might find themselves in a similar situation as Dynah, or knows someone who is unmarried and pregnant, or even someone who has had an abortion and seeks forgiveness. This book also reminds me a little about the movie Unplanned.

A God honouring book
I had wrestled with myself about buying this book. I downloaded the sample, but I found the idea of reading about rape too upsetting. However, the rape part of the book was mostly devoid of any kind of overly detailed information. I have to say that as a person that has been on both sides of the fence, I was pro-choice but now am pro-life, I found that the book agreed with my spiritual understanding of life, when life beings. It also flowed with the knowlege of God that I have come to know since my becoming a Christian. I found it inspiring to see Dynah walking her own path, against all those who would try to influence her away fromt the truths that she had always held onto. More than one time you can see temptations put before her to comply, such as the loss of love and future, you can also see that other times brute force was almost used to get her to comply. In this story its very much all about how other people react to an innocent victim of a terrible crime, its alot about how uncomfortable it make them for a whole host of reasons. Its about betrayal of those who were supposed to support and love you. Its about the hypocrisy of a Church system that only cares about protecting itself and its image. This story is about holding onto Jesus when every arm of flesh fails you, and seeing your redemption come from him. Wonderful book. Well worth buying.
