Maurice Sendak's Caldecott Medal-winning picture book has become one of the most highly acclaimed and best-loved children's books of all time. A must for every child's bookshelf. This iconic story has inspired a movie, an opera, and the imagination of generations. When Max dresses in his wolf suit and causes havoc in the house, his mother sends him to bed. From there, Max sets sail to an island inhabited by the Wild Things, who name him king and share a wild rumpus with him. But then from far away across the world, Max smells good things to eat... Let the wild rumpus continue as this classic comes to life like never before with new reproductions of Maurice Sendak's artwork. Astonishing state-of-the-art technology faithfully captures the color and detail of the original illustrations. Sendak himself enthusiastically endorsed this impressive new interpretation of his art. Mary Pols of Time magazine wrote that "what makes Sendak's book so compelling is its grounding effect: Max has a tantrum and in a flight of fancy visits his wild side, but he is pulled back by a belief in parental love to a supper 'still hot." Generations have shared this beautiful picture book, and children of all ages will want to return to it again and again. New York Public Library's #4 book on the list of "Top Check Outs of All Time" One of the National Education Association's "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children" The top picture book in School Library Journal's survey of its readers Maurice Sendak was also the creator of such classics as In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There , Higglety Pigglety Pop!, and Nutshell Library . Review: Where the Wild Things Are - An Essential Addition to Every Child's Library - This beloved classic has been enchanting children for generations, and it's easy to see why it remains such a treasured favorite in our home. Maurice Sendak's masterful storytelling and distinctive illustrations create a perfect balance of adventure, emotion, and imagination that speaks directly to children's inner worlds. What makes this book truly special is how authentically it captures the emotional journey of childhood. Max's transformation from frustrated child to king of the wild things and back to the safety of home resonates with kids who understand those big feelings and the desire for both independence and security. The story validates children's emotions while showing healthy ways to process anger and disappointment. The illustrations are absolutely iconic - detailed, expressive, and slightly mysterious in a way that sparks endless imagination. The wild things themselves are fascinating rather than frightening, with their horns, claws, and wild eyes that somehow manage to be both fierce and friendly. Children love examining every detail of Sendak's intricate artwork. The text has a wonderful rhythm and flow that makes it perfect for reading aloud. The language is sophisticated enough to grow with children while remaining accessible to 4-year-olds. My kids have discovered new details and deeper meanings with each reading as they've grown older. The book's exploration of imagination, family relationships, and emotional regulation makes it incredibly valuable beyond just entertainment. It opens up natural conversations about feelings, boundaries, and the comfort of home and family love. An absolute must-have classic that belongs in every child's library - timeless storytelling that continues to captivate and inspire young readers. Review: Share your favorite book and have a great adventure! - This was my favorite book as a child and I cannot wait to share with my 3 grandchildren. Classic book for child's book collection. It's mainly about dreams, imagination, and facing fears.
This book is a classic for youngsters. It's about dreams and imagination, and can spark classroom or home discussions. When I retired from teaching, I gave away so many wonderful books that I have felt I had to reorder because I volunteer in 2nd and 3rd grade classroom, and I babysit a 1-year-old and 4-year-old. This is one of the book I felt compelled to rebuy. I would recommend for 2 year olds to 2nd graders.

sticker
The book is a classic. Tell distributor to NOT put their sticker on the paper based cover; it ripped of part of the artwork.
