The strainer itself was fine and did not melt, but there are about 4 strips of glue that hold the stainless steel ring to the plastic strainer, and that glue melted when I put it in the dishwasher. The glue did not make any mess, but the ring will fall out if you hold the strainer upside down. The ring still stays on right side up because the ring has four metal tabs on it that go into grooves on the strainers. I just used gorilla glue and put 4 tiny dots around and glued them back and they are good as new. I wouldn't let this keep you from buying these strainers.
