The ultra-smooth surface produces some interesting results. I've tried oil pastels, watercolor, acrylic and water-based paint on them. Pastels and water-based seem to work the best for me. Unlike, say a glazed tile (also smooth), this board is extra-absorbent so the media immediately finds purchase and won't run (as in a glazed tile). Also, unlike canvas the surface will not deteriorate with steel wool, painting knife and the like. Only the paint is affected. Water-based can be manipulated after-the-fact by applying water. Kinda like oils that remain unset for a while. However, oil will dry much sooner on this board than in canvas. It is very similar to Formica (I haven't tried in Formica yet). However, due to its reasonable price and the frame's fit and finish this is worth it, in my opinion. Finally, the variety of sizes and widths makes it easier for the artist.

The product itself is an interesting surface to paint and draw on especially for ink and watercolour really smooth. However the delicate nature of the surface especially at the corners is worth noting. So that said I was shocked by the poor packaging of this product. Sent in just a thin bag which arrive damaged and torn in places. The top and bottom panels had damage (chipped corners). So I won’t order again.

Excellent surface for working with acrylics — it’s my first time using it and I’m absolutely delighted. Not only will I buy it again, but I’m also excited to try it with other techniques.
