New music room first sub
I guess hacking around with older brothers stack turntable amp and speaker system in early 60s makes @ 60 years experience. Jan and Dean meet the Beachboys fun fun fun. I was as in the past, was ....a dedicated 2.0 channel feller...Squeeze every drop o bass out of sound boxes. At my age one doesn't share many audiophile level home visits anymore. So I must pay attention to audio podcasts for new ideas. Using a Yamaha a s 501 amp now. I use a PSB Alpha Speaker type in a 4 speaker alignment. I then use all speaker switch on the amp. Sounds great. But, kept seeing videos on this 2.1 ..5.2...7...9... systems. No not this old dog. Finally like a hungry boatdock brim, bit the bait and was hooked. Not expecting much, this woofi has changed my system so much... A great lesson for moi. Keep learning. Music in the well recorded arena as the re-Mastered mo fi Santana was so so much better. On the other paw p oor recordings came alive. Surprisingly stuff like Marty Stuart's And The Superlatives Space Junk became a classic. I did leave the PSB ranch and went with Yamaha... Mainly due to moving to new home and needed no hassles with connectivity. Youngsters...moving at age 70 plus is not as fun as a 1970s tossing an army surplus bag of clothes and your audio system rides the 65 Mustang up front..the tang was a beater....bad reason to buy the Yami s but as good as this speaker sounds can't see myself needing anything else. Only problem I encountered was my ME built custom rca speaker cable connect was too large? Finally found a premade one which fit. My bride heard some words not used for decades while trying to find a match. Just began changing over to Nakameeshi? Connects...same problem... You would think 120 years of rca we could figure a way. Oh well, going to listen to a bit to one of, if not the best system I've owned..the Yamaha put it over the top for me..a bow and tip o hat to the Yami folks for quality at good price.

Great value
Bought this to connect to a Bluesound Pulse Soundbar+. It really rounded out the sound. I was looking for simple, basically plug & play, and this unit fit the bill. Several reviews talk about no crossover, which is not an issue for me, as the Pulse+ has a built-in crossover at 80Hz. And the other thing that was a "knock" was no auto shut off, again, not an issue, soundbar is connected to the eARC port and shuts off and no single is being sent to the sub. As far as the sub, it absolutely does the job. Huge sound out of this unit, I have is set to around 3 (out of 10), anything higher rattles the room. I have some tweaks I can make on the soundbar's app (BluOs), but this really took a great soundbar and made it that much better. You won't be disappointed with this sub for a smaller to mid-size space.

Easy to use for amps with built in crossover and phase
Had a Yamaha YST-SW45 8" sub which was good, but just wasn't reaching well below 30-35 Hz... Combined with towers that were handling down to 50 Hz it just wasn't enough. I did like how Yamaha subs sound, so went looking for a decent but not overly expensive one that reached to at least 25 Hz. Yamaha has 3 lower end 10" subs, this is the middle of the road one. It's essentially a hybrid of the low YST-SW216 and the higher end NS-SW300. It has more or less the specs of the 216 with the twisted port of the 300. What it doesn't have is the speaker level inputs with built-in adjustable crossover (for amps/receivers that don't have a subwoofer output and built in crossover). However, if you don't need it, it's just an extra cost; fortunately my Pioneer receiver has a sub out, crossover, and extended subwoofer signal, built in, so I didn't need the speaker inputs. It also doesn't have a standby feature, although I never used it on the SW45 as it wasn't sensitive enough- you really needed a loud bass signal to take it out of standby. Easy hookup- just a power cord, power button, RCA subwoofer input and a volume. I plugged it in, set the crossover at 50 Hz with the extended subwoofer signal on the receiver, set the volume to the mid point, and cranked some tunes. The deep lows sounded pretty good, but somehow the midbass from 40-100 were really weak... so I adjusted the crossover to 80 Hz and turned the volume up to 3/4 on the sub, and the 40-100 Hz came back, but then below 40 Hz were really blown out... Then I remembered the phase setting- the old SW was angled off to the side and I had switched to out-of-phase for better sound, but because of the port location on this sub, I had it straight firing, and it turned out the extended midbass signals were cancelling. When I switched the phase back to in-phase, moved the crossover back to 50 Hz but left the extended bass signal, and rolled back to half volume, everything evened out nicely. To me, so long as your receiver/amp has the capabilities, this sub is a good choice for easy set up and sounds good for both movies and music playback.

Sounds great with my soundbar!
Great sound, I keep it on a very low setting as this thing can shake you and your neighbors house. Fills out the room very nicely when paired with just a soundbar.

Bass that will surprise you!
I have owned two of these little subs now and LOVE it! After several years, my first one finally stopped working and I loved it so much I bought my second. Don't let the 10" size fool you! This lil booger thumps! In the audio world of performing musicians, Yamaha is renowned for their superior quality and sound reproduction. Seems that is also the case for their home audio products as well! The only negative thing I could say is minor: I wish it had a signal sensing on/off feature. I leave mine on at all times due to the power button being difficult for me to get to where I have my sub placed. It is my belief that that is what lead to my first unit giving out sooner than I would have liked for it to. But that was after YEARS of leaving it turned on. If you are looking for a sub you can feel to add to your surround sound that is top notch for the price, look no further! This is your unit!

The sound is excellent
This subwoofer works and performs excellent. Although I got some issues in the past but only one call away they resolved my concern. I highly recommend this item.
