Perfect for learning Japanese
The books are all up to date from my understanding at learning Japanese at an elementary level while the hiragana/katana chart with specific words being translated for ease of use make learning Japanese much easier.

It’s a great book but I feel overwhelmed!
I think it’s my problem because I can’t remember we the letters for the life of me! But it’s a beautiful book!

A great way to start!
It’s the best way to start AFTER you memorize hiragana & katakana, which they provide apps for you to download and practice! Best deal!

Really expensive. Maybe not suited for self-study
These are really overpriced considering how much you can get them for in Japan, but I learned a lot from these textbooks, though that might be down to my Japanese teachers. I think this book is not really suitable for self-study since there are a lot of pair and group activities so to get the most out of it, you would need a class or a tutor so you can practice the speaking exercises and practice listening too, because that is a really key part in learning Japanese. In Japan, I was textbook smart but I couldn’t think fast enough to speak, especially considering all the different conjugations. Speaking will get you to so many more places and experience so much more in Japan. So please try to get someone to practice speaking and listening with. Textbook learning alone is NOT enough
