Type of drill bit needed

You need an SDS bit (that’s how it connects to the masonry drill).

I need to drill 1/2 inch holes in granite rocks maybe 4-5 inches deep, will this do the job or do I need a bigger unit ?

Yes this should handle that, I use it to drill 1/2 holes six inches deep in concrete regularly so granite should be fine. Remember the bits are SDS slotted drill system no chuck key required also a bonus.
