Don't believe the negative reviews - this is a fine unit.
I am thoroughly pleased with this unit, however I have used it just once. If I ever have problems, I will amend this review. I was initially very concerned after shopping for a portable spot cleaner. Looking at several brands, I found many negative reviews concerning lack of suction power, leaks, units that just didn't work. I finally decided to take the plunge and buy a Hoover unit, because we have an upright Hoover unit that has served us for many, many years and is still going strong. Because I had fears about this cleaner I elected to get the extended protection agreement; hopefully I will never have to use it. When it first came, I plugged it in to check the suction. Seemed to have a good suction, and in action it has proven to be so. Realistically, no rug cleaner can make the rugs perfectly dry after being wet and cleaned, and this unit is no exception. But the areas I cleaned are just damp to the touch and should dry out within a half-day or so. I'm sure my upright Hoover (which weighs about 40 pounds and I only intend to use for whole-room cleaning) could dry the areas a bit more, but the amount of dampness is not a big deal, at least to me. One note of caution - DON'T remove the flexible off-white gasket on the outside of the cap to the solution container. It is needed to seal the container when installed for pumping cleaning solution out. That looks like a part that could be lost easily if it is pulled off, and the lack of a pressure seal might then interfere with the sprayer or even allow the container to leak when it is installed on the unit. I hope to find a source for spares for that so it can't happen even by accident. The rotating brush attachment is just great. I pre-treated the stains and then used the spot-cleaner, spraying more cleaning fluid with the wand. The brush worked the cleaner in and the suction took the liquids out. Like the hand-held attachment on our 40 pound Hoover upright, the suction wand needs to 'breathe' every few seconds or so. It helps to tilt the pickup-wand right or left a bit when you see lots of foam and liquid being sucked up. This allows the vacuum motor to empty the hose completely. By picking up the wand you can do the same thing; if you leave the wand down, eventually the suction is interrupted and the liquid is not fully pumped to the tank. That is not a flaw with this unit, it is the laws of physics at work! I had to fiddle a bit learning how to fill the reservoir and empty the empty tank. Real men don't read instruction manuals or ask for directions, and I am guilty of that; but eventually I got everything where it had to be. I couldn't figure out how to empty the dirty water tank but then realized the top just lifts off when the tank is taken out of the cleaner - so easy I didn't see it at first! The other great feature is the little hose cleaner attachment stored on-board. Before removing the dirty water tank, clean the solution reservoir and put some clean water in it; remove the rotating brush and attach the cleaner attachment to the end of the hose and turn the unit on, pressing the spray button until water flows through the hose into the dirty water tank. Then once rinsed out, set aside to dry, the unit is like new again. Remember to separately rinse the rotating brush. Hoover added the movable "ears" on the cord wrap so it is easy to just turn them in and pull off the cord, not having to unwrap it. That's a little thing but I consider it good engineering - I've seen it before on Hoover products. All in all we're off to a good start with this spot cleaner and it's light-years ahead of the old little cleaner from another brand that gave up the ghost after 20 years. Hope this one lasts just as long; I'll update my review if anything changes.

Much Better Than Other Brands
I've owned a couple portable carpet cleaning spotbot machines made by another brand and they did okay but generally lacked the ability to be used on hard surface floors or other non-carpet, non-flat spaces. They also often suffered broken hoses, etc. This machine I purchased to give me the capacity to detail my car more thoroughly than I had before, as well as still handle small spills and things around the house. The machine itself is quite well designed. Unlike other portable units which have been hard to thoroughly clean this one is designed with a very practical series of steps. The discharge tank has a fully removable lid that allows you to easily empty the tank, as well as clean inside. It can even be run through a machine if needed. The discharge lid also has a special location to allow you to clean out attachments, which is a great addition that I didn't know I was missing from others. Performance wise the suction power is very good, and the included attachments are capable of handling a variety of tasks well. The inclusion of the spinning brush was a particularly nice addition for doing car detail work. The attachments are the one downside though to this out of the box. There's not much diversity to them, and while the machine performs well overall, the attachments are limiting and almost force you to purchase others. The spin brush is large, and the other attachment is toothbrush-sized small. There's no middle ground; it's overkill or underwhelming. It would be great to see this refreshed with a couple more heads that offer mid-range performance.

Good product but I'm just not convinced
I didn't want to be disingenuous to my wallet and buy this new and then find it to be something I regret and have to sell online used. I found the nice compromise and found this pre-opened and said let's give it a whirl. I own these before and I'm 50/50 on them but yet I keep coming back. I did try this again and use the recommended solution I picked up from my local vacuum shop. I took it to a car that I knew needed some cleaning and I knew that this wouldn't hold up for what I needed to do for a small Fleet of trucks. The thoroughness was okay the perfume smell obligatory, but I think your best friend paying for your buck is to bring it to somebody to detail or by a different type of solution combination

Surpassed the new Kirby by leaps and bounds!
Tried this on a 1 1/2 YEAR OLD ink stain. I’d already tried the Kirby Shampooer we paid over $2,000 for and it failed. I’d spent at least 4 hours with the Kirby when the stain was fresh on multiple occasions. I also tried a BissellPro on it. I was doubtful this would be able to touch it since it was so old but see the before and after! This was after a total of only an hour and 15 minutes with 2 different heads. Takes energy to get stains out but it works! Not realistic for large area rugs but if they had this same machine in a version for area rugs I would buy it immediately. Overall I’m very impressed and happy with how compact it is! See the blue dirty water in the reservoir. That was all the ink it sucked out of the carpet after a year and a half!

DO NOT BUY! Hoover will not help if it breaks
DO NOT BUY. Had it for 2 years used it maybe 5 times and the hose broke. I bought a replacement hose but you can’t replace it. I called Hoover they wouldn’t do a thing because it was a little over two years. I’ll buy another definitely not Hoover. Don’t waste your money!!

Great while it lasted
I should have written this review a long time ago. We used this one time about a year after we purchased it, it did a great job of cleaning the car, but never worked again.

I purchased this for stairs and furniture based on a recommendation from a girl I watch on YouTube. I wanted a hand held unit for stairs so I didn’t have to lug my full size bissell around. I didn’t find that it had very good suction. I was pressing as hard as I could and very little water came out into the dirty tank. Very disappointed. I returned it to Amazon.

The wand sprays all over the place makes a huge mess and it doesn't suction any water out. You end up with soaking wet items full of soapy water. Not sure how this item even exists the way it works, or rather doesn't work at all

I was really looking forward to using Hoover especially since it is advertised as a pet friendly device. I didn’t even make it through my first use before the problems started though! There is obviously an issue with the product because after taking some time to read feedback from other people I found out that I am far from the only one who has experienced a problem with the spray and suction wand! It’s so disappointing from something brand new! I should have read the reviews first!

Cleans ok but take along time to dry. Suction isn’t the best Overpriced compared to other sites.
