Best Variable ND on the Market!
No X pattern, virtually no color cast, and a range of 1-5 stops (compared to the more common 2-5) make the NiSi True Color ND-Vario the best Variable ND on the market for most situations. Technically, a slight bit of added warmth can be noticed in side-by-side comparisons, but it’s nearly impossible to detect otherwise and close enough to be matched in post without any negative impact to compressed photos or video. I do wish IR filtration had been implemented in the True Color, but perhaps the technology used here doesn’t allow for it. Because IR isn’t filtered, certain lighting conditions can be undesirable or even unusable, especially as more visible light is cut. Assuming (possibly incorrectly) that this one shortcoming is a necessary trade-off for the True Color’s unmatched color accuracy, I hold that the True Color ND-Vario is about as perfect as a VND can get and the first VND that doesn’t feel like a compromise between accuracy and practicality. Here’s hoping for a True Color version of their 5-9 stop next!

This is the one you need
I’ve tried several other cheap ND filters and quickly realized they were not worth it at all. The main problems with those budget friendly filters were color shifting and autofocus malfunctions. I don’t know why that happens, but it did, and honestly, they weren’t worth a penny. After all that trial and error, I found that the NiSi ND filter is the only one that works without any color shifting or focusing issues. It’s been working great with my Sony system and various lenses, and it’s truly a lifesaver when shooting outdoors under strong daylight. Worth every penny!

Not as true to color as people make it out to be.
I watched and read so many reviews on this filter, and honestly about 90% of them are misleading. I think it’s great that Nisi gets their product out to creators, but every single video seems to be biased. Don’t get me wrong, I ended up deciding to keep it, but it is definitely not as true to color as people make it out to be. Anything past 3 stops WILL give you a lot of extra magenta. So why did I keep it? This color shift can be fixed by adjusting the tint towards green by about -4.0 and sometimes as much as -14.0. (I edit on Davinci). However, my take away was that even though it has this magenta shift, the colors stay more accurate than other comparable VNDs. I also bought a Peter McKinnon VND to compare and although it was pretty good right out of camera, it wasn’t as easily recoverable (introduces a blueish shift). Again, this could probably be removed in post, but I found that the Nisi was a lot more predictable knowing that it’s just magenta. A lot of times I shoot run n gun outside and I just set my white balance to 5500 and forget it. Now I started compensating in camera by about 0.5-1.0 points towards green to save myself some time in post when I know I’ll generally be cranking the ND past 3. It does still darken the sky in the corners past 3 stops as well, but again, that’s just what you get with polarizers. All in all, the reality is that it is still a VND. You have to sacrifice some quality if you want the speed and flexibility in changing light conditions. I just wish there were more people who gave honest reviews so that this wasn’t such a surprise to me.

Very pleased
*Initial reaction to this ND filter* The quality of it is great. Doesn’t feel cheaply made. If you’re wondering if it comes with a lands cap it does. It also comes with an extra handle to help rotate the ND filter. Just remember to turn off your auto ISO. For the price I paid. I’m very happy with this product. I have a YouTube channel(BIG ST3W) and I do a lot of outdoor content and indoor content while working on cars and this helps control my lighting. *I will give a six month update*
