Trees don't like lots of water like grass. They prefer a consistent and moderate soil moisture level. Probes will tell you on a scale of 1-10 where the soil moisture is. Anywhere from 3-8 is ideal for trees. Below 3, definitely water. Above 8, please avoid watering! I hope this helps! **Q: where does the water source come from? And how do you connect it?** A: It can be tied into drip irrigation systems that are installed with a either a 1/4" spaghetti hose to connect it to the stake or by putting a bubbler on top of it. It will then take the water and deliver it to where it needs to go - into the feeder root zone, which for most plants, bushes and trees, is the top 8-12" of soil. The top of these stakes are open to capture any natural precipitation or sprinkler water in addition to drip irrigation. It also helps with aeration and the cap is removable should you choose to use a fertilizer tablet or powder. **Q: My roots have not extended into the soil yet, should i put this into the existing roots or next to them** A: Thank you for the question! You should install these stakes about 6" - 8" away from the root ball of the tree. The water will feed into the stakes and then get disbursed into the soil up about 6-12" deep. The roots will grow outward seeking moisture and will grow more abundantly with more soil with adequate moisture. I hope that helps!
