Flimsy construction. Low quality glass that severely distorts color. *by H***Y on March 23, 2018* First impressions: Fundamentally speaking you're comparably getting about what you pay for with just the base and glass alone. Beam splitter glass is difficult to find not in bulk at a reasonable price, or with free shipping, OR already cut to a useable size and shape, and this one is designed with smooth rounded corners and an indicator circle for which way is forward. The base is lightweight but sturdy, with a tripod mount on the bottom, a beveled groove for the glass to set into at a perfect 45 degree angle, and a second groove for the box/hood to set into that isn't remotely deep enough to actually do a damn thing, (more on this later). The box/hood is where my enthusiasm for the product wanes. It's paper. Whatever they say in the description to the contrary is bullshit. The box/hood is made out of paper. It's very good quality paper, but it's paper nonetheless. It's heavy paper, almost the weight of a cereal box, but again, it's still paper, and it looks like construction paper. I assumed when purchasing, but now can't imagine that this is what they were referring to as fiberboard, a cursory google search clearly shows nothing but industrial quality wood composite materials akin to "chip board" or "particle board" when searching fiber board, this is neither. Either the listing is intentionally misleading, or whoever is in charge of sales needs to reevaluate their definition of paper. It is true however that this product does not contain cardboard, because while cardboard is made from paper, paper, like the paper the box/hood is absolutely made of, is not made from cardboard. After testing: Performance wise it works, I was able to clearly read the reflected text without the camera picking it up. The wide opening in the back of the box/hood was only a problem in 1 of the 3 test recording I conducted where there was a source of bright light directly behind the camera, in the other 2 tests this opening was not an issue. As other reviews have stated, covering the back of the camera, or otherwise shielding it from such a light source, would eliminate this issue. NOTE: I was using a tulip style lens hood in conjunction with the prompter, which would have helped block out light, your experience might differ. There is some slightly offset ghost text if examined closely, the kind you would expect when using normal glass not beam splitter glass, but it is feint and not really a concern from a distance. Color wise there is concern. The listing doesn't give any information about the iron content or reflection ratio of the beam splitter glass. Colors, vibrancy, and overall dynamic range of my test videos were severely distorted by this glass. This leads me to suspect that this glass is very low quality with a high iron content. Other reviewers will probably say "you get what you pay for," but this is hardly an excuse or a defense, especially when beam splitter glass of much higher quality can be purchased wholesale quite cheap, and the rest of the prompters overall materials are similarly low quality and it's design poor. As previously mentioned there is a groove in the base for the box/hood to set into, unfortunately this groove is much too shallow to actually protect it from getting knocked out of place, and the box/hood is otherwise not held in place by anything. I could theoretically make modifications to fix this, but I didn't buy a $25 cereal box to start cutting and taping it to do what it should already be able to do. The jossling might not be so much of an issue for someone with a cameraman, but if you're filming this yourself, you'll need to interact with the camera. The box is big, almost completely obscuring the lens of my Lumix G7 fully flipped out, this isn't particularly a design flaw mind you, prompters tend to be big, but in conjunction with it's flimsiness becomes a problem. I need to reach around the box to start recording, or to interact with the touch screen, and the slightest bump completely knocks the box/hood out of place. Further more, despite what the diagram might lead you to believe, the box/hood only sits on top of the beam splitter glass, there is no other interraction between these two components, neither one secures the other in place in any way. Final thought: In the realm of pre-built teleprompters this is the reigning champion of cheapness. In price, and also the quality. Again, getting what you pay for isn't an excuse or a defense because this product category is drastically overmarked in general. Take the parrot teleprompter for instance, there is no excuse for that product costing $99+, but at least the parrot is an actual lens attachment that doesn't completely block access to your camera or fall apart because your talent sneezed at a distance of 10 feet.
