recently had an unfortunate mishap where I accidentally broke an antique bust that holds significant sentimental value. In my search for a solution to repair and secure it, I discovered Quakehold! 66111 Museum Wax, and it turned out to be a lifesaver. This clear, 2-ounce museum wax is remarkable. This stuff is great, and while there's a bit of a learning curve in applying it, the instructions are really clear. I have a small collection of glass and crystal figurines. I also live in Southern California with two cats and a boyfriend and no display case. I used this on the glass and crystal figures and have "tested" it by lightly tapping each as though to tip them over, and by shaking the furniture they are on. I adhered them to an Ikea entertainment center (Besta system, I believe), so while it works great there I can't speak to its ability to adhere to other surfaces. One of the pieces I used it on is a blown glass unicorn. I actually bought this when the unicorn broke from being knocked over and I had to glue the legs back on. Despite the obvious fragility and the fact that the only contact points between the figure and the surface are the two hooves (smaller than a pea) and the tail (as thin as a charger cord), after a bit of trial and error I managed to get the thing stuck on perfectly. During the trial and error I also noted that it came off without reside from both the glass figure and the wood entertainment center (although the wood I did have to wipe down with a cloth, whereas the figure I could just wipe it off with my thumb). As it mentions in the instructions, it gets sturdier over time after you apply it because the wax sets, so if it's not staying as much as you'd like, leave it alone for an hour and then come back and see it it's any better. It also does get stuck on your fingers a bit, but it's not hard to get off. Just keep a paper towel on hand while you're using it. I highly recommend this stuff and I plan to use it on anything delicate. An absolute must for anyone in an earthquake-prone area.

Bought this for baby proofing our heavy old lamps that my strong 11 month old is always trying to pull down on top of his head. It was causing me so much stress that I turned to the internet and found a video on TikTok of a mom using this to accomplish the same task. It works well and now my baby does not even bother the lamps anymore since they aren’t fun to him now that they no longer move. If you use enough force they will still move and the wax will break off, but he hasn’t realized this and hope he never does! The only downside is the residue it leaves behind. I tried to use it on some trinkets on a shelf and when I needed to reposition one, the removal of the wax was not so great and I accidentally damaged my shelf’s coating by using rubbing alcohol on it to try to get the residue off. Furniture polish seemed to do the trick, but I didn’t want to test it further and do more damage to my shelves so I put all those trinkets away until my babies are older. So I would say, only put it somewhere where you plan on keeping the item there forever. My lamps I plan to always keep there, so it was well worth it just for those and the peace of mind it gave me.

I'm combining reviews of the three related products from the same company, because being able to contrast the pro and cons (and intended use) of each, would have helped me when I bought them. First off, Museum Putty and Quakehold Putty are the same thing. It say so in the leaflet that come with it. They have two different names just to market to different users. They also make Quakehold Gel, and Museum Wax. Gel requires a sealed surface, and says not to use on wood. It is clear, and if you need to anchor a clear vase to a glass shelf, this is your product. I found it is also the most difficult to work with, so take that into account. It has a very slow motion ooze to it (like very, very thick honey), and I simply could not get it to stick to a crystal vase (to apply it directly to the vase) - I had to apply it to the shelf, and put the vase on it. Once I gave it time to "set" (and cleaned up the extra that oozed out), it did hold the vase well, and is virtually invisible. Wax is what you want for anchoring something to a wooden surface. It's a soft white color (translucent in a thin layer) that isn't obtrusive under most items. It's not hard like candle wax, it's soft, and feels like it's been liquified and whipped (incorporating air), then allowed to cool. I have no idea how they make it, I'm just talking about what it feels like. It's relatively easy to work with for the first few items, but if you are doing a lot, it gets somewhat annoying. Traces of wax stick to your fingers, and clings to the wax you are trying to attach to your item. Wipe(scrub) your fingers on paper towels in between, but eventually you'll need to wash your hands in water as hot as you can stand. It does come off. Putty is the easiest to work with. To me, it's something between cream and ivory colored, also unobtrusive under most items. Also needs a sealed surface. Though they say you can use it on finished wood, they also caution that it may lift the finish. Why risk it? Use the Museum Wax - people have been waxing wood for many centuries... I have used it on painted wood however, and it hasn't seemed to do any harm to that. I bought all of these about three months ago, and used them on the appropriate surfaces. I could live without the Gel (just don't need in in my circumstances) - I only found one place for it, but it's held well. On the other hand, the Wax and the Putty are two things I wish I'd found years ago! I have a litter of teenage cats that practically bounce off the walls when they are playing and chasing each other. Since I've used these stuff on nearly everything breakable within their reach, they have not managed to knock over a single thing! Vase/candleholder/picture frames/knicknacks/etc on tables, glass bottles on window sill, glass and ceramic food storage containers on the kitchen counters, the external hard drive on the desk, even the tippy charging stand for the headphones... (Once you start, you keep finding new uses.) One suggestion that is a bit different from the instructions, particularly with stuff that has a rimmed edge - rather than making small balls of the stuff, make small worms. You still space it out around the item (not the whole bottom nor whole perimeter), but it makes it easier to control, and less chance of some oozing out. Also, a little goes a long way. I've used perhaps a third of a jar of the Wax, and a bit more than three quarters of a packet of the Putty. I already have a spare packet of the putty though - I refuse to ever again be without a supply of both of these! Hope this helps!

I started using the product on the boat to hold fragile things that needed to stay in place. As time went by it was clear that it had 100 uses. I last used it to attach a ceramic pumpkin to the top of our acrylic cupcake tower. The product so look hard in the jar. Simply take out a chuck and hold it in your hands for a minute or two. The great if your hands will make it soft and pliable. It’ then put a small amount in uniform dots , the size of a pea, on either surface. Press and hold for a few seconds. It’s that easy. When you want to remove it simply take a then object, like a carving knife or screw driver to, and slide it to release the bond. Clean up is a breeze. You can either heat it a second with a blow dryer or clean a few times with window cleaner. It’s that fast and easy. The color is almost clear. It holds very quickly and theirs nothing to dry. It’s is not sticky at all.
