Black on White: A High Contrast Book For Newborns

I read this book to my children when they were babies. It has great black and white photos that newborns can see. I was recently invited to a baby shower and bought this book as part of the gift. The mom loved it!

I love that there is a book I can share with my newborn. He is 8 weeks old now, but he has loved looking at this book from day 1. I will prop it up next to him when he is laying on a blanket or doing tummy time and he will stare at it for quite awhile! It's nice and thin and is perfect to carry around in the diaper bag. If you buy any "toys" for your infant, get this one!

High contrast black and white book. Great book for a newborn to look at during diaper changes or playtime. My baby is 4 months old now and still loves this book! Would recommend getting this book for your baby.

I think I liked this book more than my baby. She never showed too much interest in it, but I enjoyed telling her about each picture. It's rather short, so I did have to be creative to make reading time last longer. I started showing it to my daughter at 2 months, and now at 4 months we've moved on to books with bright colors and other baby's faces. Those seem to be more interesting to her. However, this book would be good for those very first weeks with baby.

Great baby gifts. Newborns only see in black and white and high contrast for their first few months, so these books are great to flip through with them. It's never too early to start reading to kids.

I am a preK teacher and have used many Tana Hoban books in my classroom. I was looking for a gift for a baby shower when I saw this. The black and white silhouettes are perfect for infants. They need the contrast and simple pictures for their developing eyes. I purchased 3 of these and will be back to buy more for everyone I know having a baby.

This is a perfect book for newborns (and babies) with the high contrast, single object pictures on each page. I bought it for our grand baby, who focuses on the pictures when we hold it close enough (8-15 inches) for him to see; and even seems to have a couple "favorites"!

My sister-in-law wanted this for her new baby as she heard black and white pictures were best for babies to focus on. This book arrived in great condition and my sister-in-law loved it. She commented that when she would show the pictures to her baby, she loved to stare at them. She was happy with the book and I would definitely buy it again, either for my own child or as a gift.

Para, presta atención y mira los dibujos. El material del libro es de buena calidad, las hojas son gruesas, de cartón. Parece ser resistente.

Vraiment bébé adore ce livre. Les couleurs lui permettent de bien voir et les dessins sont vraiment beaux. Très beau carton également.

My baby and I look at these books as visual training exercises and word relationships. She is almost 3 months old now and this book can keep her attention the whole way through which is impressive. I have the other book as well (Black and White fold out book). I'm happy with it as well.

This book is amazing for newborns. When my son arrived 10 years ago I had completely forgotten about things to keep him entertained and a friend bought us a copy of this. My son "read" it from day one. It was amazing to watch his eyes scan over the images and make sense. He particularly liked the butterfly. I have since bought it for each of my friends as newborn gifts and they have all commented on how amazed they were that their babies "read" the book. These are newborn books as babies see very differently for the first few months and need this high contrast. reading some of the poor reviews given below I think they have probably been bought for older babies and therefore are not suitable at all.
