Must be polarized!
Flashlight I have has 4 D cell batteries, with a normal bulb the polarization of the batteries is not an issue, however the LED bulb must have correct polarization to light. Once I realized that, the LED bulb worked fine!!

Worked great in old book light and in old flashlight.
It fit just as well as the incandescent bulbs that only last for about 30 hours. There was a minor shadow cast from the internal circuit board, but for longer bulb life and battery life, I'll take it.
