Would a 2” thick book fit? It’s 8.25” tall and 2” thick.

It is actually very roomy. I have carried 2 books in at one time just maybe a little hard to close but it works. One was a 2" book and the other one was just about an 1"

How many books can 1 sleeve hold ?

It depends on the size of book. Probably 1 hardcover book, 1-2 smaller, paperback books
