Is there a shade or hood that I could buy to put inside my lamp? The day light bulb i am using protrudes past the edge of the lamp.

No shade available unless you custom make one. Try a few test pieces of an old plastic bottle. 1 Gal. Vinegar bottle is semi-transparent and will allow some light to come through. Whereas a 1 gal. Clorox bottle is opaque white and will stop light from going anywhere but down. I'd use some blue painters tape to hold the plastic in place and do a few trial runs. If it suits your needs you could either then use a HOT GLUE if the lamp bulb doesn't get too hot to melt the glue. Or you could rivet your new shade to the existing shade 1 or 2 rivets would hold it in place. Plastic is easy to work with and can easily be painted to match the lamp with the new 2 in 1 spray paints. If you don't like the idea of the plastic. Hobby stores or boot & saddle shops sell leather scraps that you could do the same with. And then there is always the possibility of getting a thin piece of aluminum or copper to do the same. If you're a bit creative, you could even decorate the new metal with some tin punch or some hammered looks or even a combination of the two. Make it a project and have fun.

NO, it doesn't work with 240 voltage. The answer about whatever the bulb is, is a very wrong answer from one who knows not what they say. In the U.S. household current is 110 voltage. It would be impossible to plug this into a 240v socket as the plugs and sockets are not compatible.
