However, like others who have reviewed this item, I felt compelled to do so.For years, too many if I'm honest, I'd held onto my conventional pocketed spring mattress. For years it was showing signs of its age and I eventually caved in to the wife's "suggestion" that a replacement mattress was way overdue.Being the sort of person that deeply studies reviews and not prone to impulse purchase decisions, I duly searched around. I first scoured the web for sites focusing on bedroom furniture. My initial option was to go for a cheap coil spring mattress, the cheapest of all types, and if I got more than a year out of it, then that was a bonus. Now, let me say that memory foam mattresses were not on my shopping list whatsoever. I had always slept in what might be thought of as traditional type sprung mattresses and wasn't convinced about the new fangled, OK, not so new, memory foam options.I chopped and changed my mind, now settling on a more expensive pocketed spring mattress from a well known British brand. I was close to purchasing this when I came across the Novilla "hybrid" mattress. After a bit of research, I realized that hybrid mattresses offered the best of both worlds. The load bearing support of pocketed springs with the benefits of body contouring memory foam. Seeing the high average review score, I began to see this as a much more compelling choice. In addition, I was shocked at how inexpensive the various models were in comparison to the pocketed sprung mattress I was about to buy. The option I eventually went for, a King size 20cm thick model, was even cheaper than the cheapest basic coil sprung offering I had first considered. Further, the Novilla mattress came with a whopping 10 year warranty and even a 100 night sleep trial.Reading the many reviews convinced me that this hybrid technology was perhaps the future. So many people rated it five stars that the consensus became the final push I needed to buy.Another consideration that I found appealing, was the fact that these types of mattresses come in a box! This is a real boon, not least of all was the minimal space said box occupied. In fact, upon delivery of ours, I was convinced prior to opening that we had been sent a single, not king, size in error. I had expected the box to be 5 feet tall, given it was rolled and vacuum packed. Looking at the diminutive box standing around 3 feet tall and approximately 14 inches on a side, I felt sure we had the wrong size. Once we had laid the heavy rolled up squished mattress onto the divan top and unrolled it, I could see now that it was also folded over in half length ways. Amazing to think that such compression could be done without damage to the multiple pocket springs. Once we broke the seal on the bag using the handy tool included, the hiss of air could be heard. As we tore open more and more, the hiss became louder. Like magic, the mattress began to expand like a lilo being inflated. We jumped at one point when it flipped open like a book, now attaining its 5 foot full width. In less than 10 minutes the mattress was fully expanded. The manufacturers state waiting up to 72 hours, but I think in most cases you will be able to use it within an hour for sure. Ours looked completely normal after just 10 minutes.I had to flip the mattress over using the handy fabric handles on the sides as the hybrid design has two layers. The pocketed spring layer must be on the bottom with the memory foam on top. It's easy to determine which side is which.So how is this new mattress? In a word, brilliant!I have a similar story to others here. My wife had been suffering from leg pain while sleeping on our old mattress, and I had sometimes experienced hip ache when sleeping on my side as well as often getting up with lower back stiffness. Almost a week into using the new mattress, both my wife and I have not experienced pain, it's amazing. These mattresses contour and support the body, unlike my old, rather hard, conventional mattress where you slept "on" it. With this, you sleep more "in" it. This mattress is softer than I'd been used to. Mind you, my old mattress was a semi orthopaedic hardness that aged poorly. Side sleeping for me is so much more comfortable now, it's lovely.So often one doesn't know how bad something is until they experience something better. This has been the case with this Novilla hybrid mattress. Now, sleep comes far easier than it used to and I can't believe I waited so long before getting one of these.Oh, don't forget to register your purchase. Novilla provide a nice booklet, not just a sheet of paper, that contains care instructions for your new mattress. In it you will also find the link to their website for registering your product. Doing this will trigger your 100 night sleep trial as well as your warranty, so be sure to do this.Get one. What do you have to lose? With the 100 night sleep trial, if you don't like it, you get a refund and the mattress is taken away for you. It is so supportive and wonderfully comfortable, i had forgotten how bad my old mattress was until lying on this one, it was like my aches and pains just melted away. It is a thick, heavy mattress but ingeniously vacuum packed in a box, if possible ask the delivery man to take it upstairs because this was the only problem I had ... but my goodness was it worth the effort ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable hybrid mattress at an affordable price *by E***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2023* Our old, traditionally sprung mattress was getting tired hence we needed to replace it. Having done my usual rounds of research we settled for this hybrid mattress given the claimed movement isolation due to the pocketted springs topped with a layer of cooling memory foam. Plus it was a lot cheaper than the other big name mattresses and came with a 100 day trial.It was delivered in a box which was remarkably small considering there was meant to be a king size mattress inside; it was also reassurringly heavy and required manhandling up to our bedroom. The mattress had been deeply vacuum packed, folded in half, rolled up, and sturdily cling filmmed. There's a shrouded cutter supplied to safely cut through all this packaging. The mattress expands quite quickly once it is released from the packaging and there was no offgassing smell that I could detect.Having left if for the requisite time to fully expand and settle we ended up with a full sized, 8 inch deep mattress. We ordered the 8 inch depth so that we wouldn't have to change our existing bedlinen.It's proving to be a fine mattress. To us it is quite firm, I'm 11 stone and I barely sink into it, but we prefer this level of firmness. The pocketted springs do provide excellent movement isolation as my wife will testify - she barely notices me getting in and out of bed now. The gel layer does provide some contoured support but not as much as I expected and I imagine that the deeper mattresses in the range would be better at this. I'm uncertain whether the gel has a cooling effect as advertised but I am certainly very comfortable, temperature wise, lying on it.So if you're in the market for a replacement mattress I can recommend you at least try this one out.
