Audio Production and Critical Listening: Technical Ear Training, Second Edition develops your critical and expert listening skills, enabling you to listen to audio like an award-winning engineer. Featuring an accessible writing style, this new edition includes information on objective measurements of sound, technical descriptions of signal processing, and their relationships to subjective impressions of sound. It also includes information on hearing conservation, ear plugs, and listening levels, as well as bias in the listening process. The interactive web browser-based "ear training" software practice modules provide experience identifying various types of signal processes and manipulations. Working alongside the clear and detailed explanations in the book, this software completes the learning package that will help you train you ears to listen and really "hear" your recordings. This all-new edition has been updated to include: Audio and psychoacoustic theories to inform and expand your critical listening practice. Access to integrated software that promotes listening skills development through audio examples found in actual recording and production work, listening exercises, and tests. Cutting-edge interactive practice modules created to increase your experience. More examples of sound recordings analysis. New outline for progressing through the EQ ear training software module with listening exercises and tips. Review: One of the best books on understanding how to describe audio performance in words - I own dozens, if not hundreds of books on audio in one fashion or another. This includes many of the most well known ones like Douglas Self books, Forrest Mims, Art of Electronics, Art of Digital Audio, etc. etc. Well, this book isn't like any of the other ones I own that deal with audio. This breaks semi-complicated concepts down in a professional manner to help you not only understand the lingo, but also how to train your ears to become a better listener of music and movies. Also included is a website where you can quite literally train your ears as you follow along with the instruction of the author. I write audio hardware reviews and technical articles on my website HallmanLabs.com. This book is in the top 10 of books I have come back to the most for reference or research. Highly recommended and worth the cost of admission! This is probably one of the only books out there that can improve both your technical writing ability and listening skills!! I hope to see another from this author at some point. Review: The new standard - This is the new standard for a reason. Great, great reference and training material.

Too expensive for the contained knowledge and inaccessible online software.
This is actually a wealthy book of knowledge and well-thought out explanations. It's probably the reason it might be chosen as a text book, perhaps. I highly recommend every audio engineer read this book, especially if you're fairly new to the industry. My only gripe is the price. It's absurdly overpriced for the content inside. You can easily locate YouTube videos to explain much, if not more than the information in a more digestive and functional way. Perhaps the publisher will consider a third edition at a lower price and accessible software content in the near future. For the software, it appears you either must purchase the book from Routledge directly to gain access (?), or they just don't have links to it (broken). Again, a great book, but insanely expensive for the content provided.

The inet site link does not work
The internet site link does not work & the publisher does not respond when using tgeir contact form. If you are looking to use the book as an interactive tool, don't bother. I won't buy from this publisher again.

A handbook for Listening
To learn how to listen, this is the book! Jason Corey is an audio Gandalf - helpful beyond words and encouraging in a non-intrusive way. I can envision Audio Production and Critical Listening being an excellent Listener's manual for anyone wishing to deepen their connection with sound.

Great book.
This book needs a lot of critical study ! Need to go to the web sites mentioned for checking audio samples etc to make full use of the information in the book. I think it addresses a lot of gray areas regarding evaluation 'sound'. Great book.
