John Singer Sargent: Figures and Landscapes, 1914-1925: The Complete Paintings, Volume IX Review: Superb book, especially for those wanting to understand the process of JSS - Superb: even for those who own many art books. Accurate color reproductions to the originals (I have seen many exhibits and often the color catalogs are atrocious and not worth buying). Fascinating collection of sketches, similar work (done at same location... watercolor and oils together, etc.), and even some small photos of the location! Very thorough and thoughtfully done. This is a book for the serious artist to dig deep in understanding Sargent's mind and methodology. In fact a whole chapter is dedicated to understanding JSS's process with modern forensic methods such as UV photo analysis, raking light, infrared, etc. Bonus of extra crisp detail plates of choice artwork closeups (showing brush marks and microscopic color shifts)... closer than a museum will allow you to get, even with your nose up to the art! Many new works I have not seen previously (from private collections). Ormond's entire JSS series is great. This volume is outstanding. Review: Sargent catalogue - As in the previous 8 volumes, a sumptuous review, well photographed and written, of a brilliant artistic career.

A "Must Have" for Sargent Lovers
This is the final volume in a Catalog Raisonne of the works of Sargent; this volume highlights the artist's work from about 1914 on, including a series of stunning oils and watercolors of the Canadian Rockies, as well as watercolors of his trips to Florida.

Received this book as a Christmas present. All i can say is that as always, it is astounding. Being a huge fan of his watercolour works, the ones in this book are out of this world. My only comment if i can, is that the authors have covered the last 11 years in one book. I am certain that he painted many more works. Will there be a "surprise" new volume in the future? But apart from that, get it, you won't regret it!

A beautiful ending to the series of the complete paintings with some nice extra's, i.e. the essays on framing and Sargent's oil painting techniques... Unfortunately my book cover suffered from some minor caps, probably from the transport. Not worth the trouble to send it back, but always a pity for an art book like this.

A bit disappointing, thought it would include his mural works. Sargent's watercolours are a tad repetitive.
