Small rig does it again
Small rig doesn't disappoint, very impressed with this little mic, very hot output with no battery, I like the option to add a second mic and split the channels. Good sound quality, low noise, works great on my Sony a6500. Only minor complaint is the deadcat can't go on all the way to cover the actual mic element because of where the mount goes but I moved the mount to the back of the mic to slip the deadcat on further

HUGE fan of Smallrig! Very high quality!
This, like other Smallrig products, is of exceptional quality. I tried it out with two different cameras (a Zcam cinema camera and a GoPro Hero 9) and the S20 performed admirably on both. The audio quality is excellent, and the volume level is more than acceptable. I compared it to a Rode VideoMicro, and the Smallrig easily outperforms it. If you want a high-quality mic that won't break the bank, this is the one to choose. Highly recommended! A+++

Does not work - maybe I got a lemon?
This cut lil guy just does not record sound. I have decades of experience as a filmmaker so this isn't a case of not understanding the equipment- this mic simply does not work. I must have got a lemon. I bought my 10yo daughter a digital camera for Christmas and this cut little mic to go with it, but sadly it's going back to the MFG. Just to make sure I wasn't crazy I plugged in my professional Sennheiser shotgun mic into her camera and as expected the sound came in loud and clear. With the Small rig I'm just getting a flat line and boosting the levels has no effect. Bummer. I would also add, for anyone still reading- don't buy into this two microphone gimmick. I didn't even realize this thing came with a second lav-style mic, but the cord for it is too short for a lav and they're trying to market it as a "second mic for stereo." Trust me, that's total BS, unless you absolutely have to separately mic two things that are three feet apart this is just marketing nonsense. (I kind of like Smallrig as a brand too, but they lost points for this big fail.)

Disappointing quality, great customer service
******Update Small Rig contacted me and sent me a new microphone. Let's see how it goes. Great customer service. ****Poor quality. Bought it back in October 2024. Used it a few times and the input connection is loose and it doesn't pick up an audio whatsoever. Disappointed.

Could have been an Incredibly Impressive Little Beast.
INITIAL REVIEW: Recently bought a new Lumix S9 for my video production business. Wanted something smaller than the RODE video mic pro to complement the S9's small form factor. Also some to capture better run-and-gun audio than the terrible in-cam mics. Cost was an issue also as I just purchased a camera and two lenses. I love SmallRig's products... so I took a chance and grabbed this little Forevala S20. At $40 I wasn't expecting "WOW" audio... just usable audio after a little sound sweetening in post. I AM BLOWN AWAY. This little thing delivers the same audio quality as my RODE video mic pro. This at 20% the price and 40% the size. AND....I don't have to worry about a mic battery or turning the mic on/off. Comes with a regular wind screen, a dead cat wind screen, a corded Lav mic and two connection cables (TRS for cameras and TRSS for mobile devices. Best I can tell the construction is really solid. The mic housing and build itself is metal...not plastic. When recording with the LAV mic and the shotgun together you can switch the mic from M (mono) to S (Stereo). Handy if you're asking questions that need to be heard in an interview with subject. Cons: The shock mount is too rigid. So unfortunately camera bumps do transfer to the mic and recorded sound. (Mounted in the car while driving works fine) While the Mono and Stereo modes are neat, when using the Stereo mode with the Lav mic it splits the channels. Lav on right, Shotgun on left. This is tough because the fidelity of the Lav mic is nowhere near the quality of the shotgun. So... the two voices "sound" very different. Finally the Lav mic is noisy. Like super noisy background hiss and room tone. I've yet to try with one of my better quality Lav Mics. That being said and all things considered... for $40 you can't beat this fabulous little mic. Absolutely love it and highly recommend. UNFORTUNATE UPDATE: Sadly I had to return the unit. Like others have mentioned in the 1 star ratings, the rear connection port broke loose inside the mic. No mishandling, no drops, no misuse. Owned for 3 days and never left my office. When the cable is plugged into the back of the mic, the port is now loose and jiggles freely as it is now unattached inside. Sound is no longer being sent to camera. After seeing the similar 1 star reviews Iv'e change my "exchange with same item" to "return and refund the item."

Good quality
Good quality, sounds good, would've been good if they included a dead cat for the lapel mic instead of just 2 of the same mesh screens

small factor, good sound quality
Pretty decent little mic. Not bad at all! I use it on a Sony camcorder without any issues.

good product
There isn't really to much to say on this. It works, and I would be happy to buy this again. I have a more expensive mic of the same type and this performs just as good as the expensive one
