I suggest using the biggest cable the connector will allow. **Q: How is this supposed to be assembled?** A: crimp the orange rubber boots on with the terminals at the same time. the yellow is the seal between one half an the other. I bought these for a stand-alone LS harness build and they are very easy to understand and manipulate the pieces without directions. If you understand basic wiring and harness assembly, these connectors are a no brainer and of great quality. The weatherproof wasn’t a necessity for me as this plug will be in the cabin of the vehicle but it’s a nice safety net for someone else. The pins are easily workable and can be crimped with a standard wire cutter/crimper tool. Not specialty tools required. Unit's click-lock/release mechanism is superior to that used by most domestic automotive manufacturers of this era; only one hand required to release the click lock- THANK YOU! This compensates for the relatively-lower strength of its crimped wire terminations (which you must do to use its waterproof feature) vs. that of OEM soldered connections.
