Another solid filter from Fram!
I have been using Fram filters for years, and the XG7317P continues to prove why I stick with this brand. It is well built, threads on smoothly, and feels like a quality filter. Even though it is rated for up to 20,000 miles, I still follow my usual 5,000-mile oil change routine. That schedule has always worked for me, and this filter fits right into it. The price is also a good value for the level of protection you get. Before installing, I always lubricate the rubber gasket. I just put a little fresh oil on my fingertip and run a thin, even layer around the gasket. This helps the filter seat properly, prevents it from sticking when it is time to take it off, and makes it easier to get a clean seal without overtightening. Once installed, my engine runs smooth and consistent, and I have never had issues with leaks or pressure while using these filters. If you want a dependable filter with strong synthetic media at a fair price, this one is an excellent choice.

I use this Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter on my 2015 Subaru Outback, and itโs been one of the best filters Iโve used. ๐ง What I Like: โข The grip coating is a game changer โ makes installation and removal way easier, especially when your hands are slick or youโre working in tight spots. โข The filter media quality is top-notch, and itโs rated for 20,000 miles โ I donโt push it that far, but I appreciate the peace of mind. โข No leaks, no weird noises, and it holds up great with Valvoline Restore & Protect and synthetic oil. โธป โ Bottom Line: If youโre doing your own oil changes on a Subaru or any vehicle, this filter is 100% worth the few extra bucks. I have always felt that Fram filters were good quality and these are no exception. It is hard to evaluate but I do believe that they function properly and easily last between oil changes.

Additional application for trans filter on 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport 2.2 with 4-speed 4EAT trasmission
Actually works really well as a transmission filter on my 1999 Subie Impreza Outback Sport with the 4 speed auto tranny (4EAT). The factory filter is a special design, and I would not recommend using ANY other oil filter in this instance. However, the Fram Ultra synthetic media flows SO WELL (with so little flow resistance), that you can get away with it. This filter is the exact same gasket and outer diameter as the factory Tokyo Roki Subaru trans filter, but the Fram is longer by about an inch. The Subie filter has a small hole in the metal end cap that restricts the flow of transmission fluid based on the diameter of the hole, but it allows most of the fluid to travel through the filter unrestricted and also unfiltered. The smaller hole creates pressure that forces a small percentage of the trans fluid through the actual factory paper media to be filtered. If I had to guess, it's MAYBE filtering 5-10% of the fluid that goes through the filter...and even less when hot, because the fluid is thinner and less is diverted through the media as opposed to the hole in the endcap. I've been using this Fram Ultra on the transmission for over 1k miles now without issue and I know I'm getting fantastic filtration of the fluid in a way that is otherwise impossible. I'm able to get the gunk really OUT over the course of several drain-and-fills over the next 5k-10k miles. D&F the new fluid in adds detergency and allows the fluid to dissolve varnish and other build-up. But this has to be filtered out or it just recirculates endlessly. This filter allows me to get that junk out without resorting to a full flush. It flows enough so that the tranny works and shifts perfectly even when cold (well cold for Florida; a 45 degree morning). I do NOT consider this a long term solution. Not hardly. But it's a great way to clean as I drive without having to drop the pan and/or do a complete flush. The gentle detergency of the new fluid (4 quarts, in my case) added for each drain-and-fill works to carry the contaminants to this filter, which I'll remove in 5k to 10k miles and replace with a new factory filter. It's a specialized application, but one worth noting. Also, it's proof that Fram Ultras have some of the best flow rates on the market, in addition to some of the best filtration (beta ratios of around 99.9% at 20 microns). You literally get the best of both worlds. Also, if you're not using a Fram Ultra for your vehicle's engine oil, you're leaving some protection on the table. Why do that when these can be had at Wally world for under $10 and can be used for up to 15k oil change intervals and/or 3 consecutive 5k oil change intervals (which is what I do).

Great filter and very economical
I have been buying these FRAM Ultra Synthetic oil filters for a few years now, as opposed to OEM, and Iโm really impressed! Based on my research at the time, the filtration performance is top-notch, providing excellent protection for my engine. It is designed for use with synthetic oils, which gives me peace of mind for longer oil change intervals. In fact I normally change my oil and filter once a year since I do not drive much (e.g. <10k). But the last time around I only changed the oil and left the filter on since it's rated for 20,000 MILES which is ~32,000 KM. The installation is always straightforward, and the build quality feels robust and durable. In the past few years using these on all our vehicles, I did not notice any difference in engine performance compared to OEM. Overall, I can recommend these filters.
