The ultimate bidirectional scanner for DIY maintenance!
If you handle your own automotive maintenance and custom modifications, the XTOOL A30M V2.0 is an absolute game-changer to keep in the garage. I picked this up because I wanted full system diagnostics and bidirectional control without paying a massive subscription fee, and this tool absolutely delivers.Having a couple of different vehicles in the driveway—including a 2023 Toyota Camry and a 2020 Buick Encore CL—means I need a scanner that isn't locked into a single manufacturer. The A30M syncs right up to both via a fast, stable wireless Bluetooth connection, and the Android and iOS app interface is smooth and incredibly intuitive. A few standout features:True Bidirectional Control: Being able to command modules and perform active tests (like toggling EVAP systems, injectors, or A/C clutches) makes tracking down specific issues so much easier. 26+ Reset Functions: From simple oil light resets and electronic parking brake (EPB) retractions to advanced throttle and crank sensor relearns, it covers almost every DIY service procedure you would need. Lifetime Free Updates: This is the biggest selling point. Most professional-level scanners force you into expensive yearly update subscriptions, but XTOOL provides lifetime free software updates to keep your vehicle coverage current as you change cars over the years. Live Data & Auto VIN: It quickly pulls the VIN and allows you to monitor, record, and graph up to 8 real-time data streams simultaneously, which is perfect for live troubleshooting. Whether you're just clearing a simple check engine light or diving into deep module diagnostics, this compact tool provides professional-level functionality at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommended for any serious DIYer!

Great tool, great support, it’s a huge leap from the cheap $20 scanners.
I bought the A30M a couple years ago to help diagnose check engine lights on my older vehicles. This week it ended up saving me from guessing and just throwing parts at a check engine light. I had a check engine light on for an evap leak so with the two way communication I was able to activate the EVAP vent control valve on and off, confirm the solenoid was working, and then use a smoke machine to determine that the valve had mechanically failed. After replacing it, I cleared the codes and verified everything with the scanner. The app takes a little time to learn, but once I got familiar with it, it was easy to read codes, clear them, check live data, and monitor emissions readiness. The software is always up to date with free updates which is worth a lot to me. I actually had to reach out to support for an issue connecting and they helped me get it sorted. For a certified YouTube mechanic like myself, it offers a lot without the cost of a big time professional scan tool. It’s already paid for itself with one repair since my state requires emissions testing.

It was great when it was working but after the update it will not connect with any of my Ipads.
I've owned the Anyscan A30M for over a year and thought it was great for the money. I used it with my IPad. I used it to help fix a couple of my cars and some friend's cars. The bi-directional and live data features made this a very useful tool and much better than most other scanners in the price range. The updates were free, without needing a subscription, which made this a very cost effective scanner. Then it just stopped working when I really needed it. It would not communicate with my Ipad. I went to the Xtool website but there was no mention of any problems so I thought it was a problem with my A30M. Since I liked the device so much and had a car with some issues, I immediately bought a new one but this new one had the same problem so I wrote to Xtool to tell them there may be a problem with their device. I learned the problem was caused by a software update. They emailed me that the experts were working on a fix and it will be working again in a couple of days. That was over two weeks ago and my new A30M is still not working with my Ipads. There was an update for the app (6.2.1) on the Apple store. I deleted my old version of the App and got the latest version but now It has a new problem. It gives a bluetooth failure error during startup. It still will not communicate with my Ipads. I have three Ipads and none of them can communicate with the A30M. I tried an old Samsung tablet that I had and I was able to get the A30M working. I still have a few issues even with the Samsung, but at least it works. It has been very frustrating trying for a couple of weeks to get it to work with my Ipads. If you have a Android tablet you may be in luck but if you want to use it with an Ipad you may have some problems. Xtool emailed me that everyone else have gotten their A30M working again (but not me). Such a shame for what was a once a fantastic tool. If they come up with a fix that actually works with an Ipad, I'll update my review. Update**** It works with my Ipad again. This after I bought a new Samsung tablet for the device. I couldn't wait any longer so I ended up buying the Samsung Tablet to get the A30M to work. I had not been able to use the device for about three weeks and I had a Jeep in need of repair so I bought an Android tablet. Xtool kept in touch and kept helping with my old Ipad and yesterday, after deleting the APP for the third time, rebooting my Ipad and reloading the App onto the Ipad, they finally connected. I was happy because I really like my Ipad Pro but after using both the Android and the Ipad, I think I'm going to keep using the Samsung because it seems to work a little better with the A30m. I also like the interface between the A30M and the Android (Samsung) better. I was very happy with the Xtool support. I think I emailed them just about everyday and they always answered back quickly. They never gave up trying to help. I'll rate the A30M 5 stars in the future if it keeps working. ***Update*** the A30M is still working great and Xtool keeps allowing me to update the software so I'm very happy and raised my rating to 5 stars.

Absolutely fantastic. Incredibly responsive customer service. Hidden gem. Ignore the haters!
I've used it on 5 different vehicles so far (2 just to see what functions it has) and I'm honestly blown away by the feature set it has for only ~$200. The software seems very similar to software I've used in $2,000+ scan tools from Autel, with what seems to me like almost 100% of the features and functions. It (very obviously) does not match up with Snap-On scan tools I've used in shops as a mechanic that cost tens of thousands of dollars, which to be very clear is absolutely not a knock on the product. This scan tool is competing with $2,000+ Autel scanners for a fraction of the price, and I get to supply my own device at the same time? I bought a cheap(ish) tablet just for pairing with the A30M and honestly it's just as fast as the wireless Autel scanners I've used in shops in the past, and pairing is seamless almost every time. Not to mention the fact that you don't have to pay for each separate module, and you get module updates for life? Autel wants almost $5,000 to deck out their most expensive scanner with all the modules and updates still cost loads of money on a yearly basis. Absolutely incredible. There is definitely room for polish on the software, though, as there are still some rough edges that could be worked out. Only time will tell if the "lifetime" update promise is kept. I've been burned on something like that before. On every vehicle I've tried it on the AutoVIN works flawlessly. Bluetooth connection is stable and reliable. The app is fast but it of course depends on what hardware you're running it on. The cheapest crappiest phone you can get your hands on is not going to work well with the app. Same goes for a tablet, which is definitely the way you should be using the app. The phone experience isn't great, but I don't knock XTool for that because it's not designed for phones, it's designed for tablets. The cheap(ish) tablet I bought specifically to use the A30M with works just fine. The cheapest tablet you can get your hands on will also not be a great experience. Use the right hardware and the software will shine. All the vehicles I've tried every special function has worked. And it supports a wide range of special functions. Not always flawlessly, as sometimes I had to do some things twice for it to register but I've had that same problem with other scan tools so it's probably the fault of the OBDII protocol and not XTool's fault. The reports feature is also very handy. Haven't used it much yet but it works just fine. Overall the A30M is absolutely fantastic. Customer service (thanks Jenny!) is very responsive and patient. If you are on the fence about buying it—just do it. Ignore the people that says they can't get the app to work or the bluetooth isn't reliable or it's slow. I can assure you that this is very likely user error and not an issue with the product. Follow the instructions and the device and the app will work fine; and if there's something you can't figure out, support is very responsive (for me I've always gotten a reply within 2 days). I was not compensated or pressured to leave this review for a discount or free products. I paid full price for my A30M, as well as the tablet from an unrelated brand that I'm using the software on.

Fully featured, robust, and lifetime updates
Lifetime free updates, bi directional communication, a ton of reset and programming features, data logging and graphing, this thing is a dream for the price. I left mine on the roof of my car by accident and found it down the street, having been run over. It still works and looks fine! I do wish there was a way to favorite vehicles since I'm only using it for several cars. It would also be nice if you could use it without having it be 100% up to date.

Excellent Scanner, Real Lifetime Updates, and Outstanding Customer Support
I purchased the XTOOL A30M V2.0 OBD2 Scanner a couple of years ago, and after using it extensively on a wide variety of vehicles, I can confidently say it has been one of the best automotive tools I’ve ever purchased. What has impressed me the most is that the software updates are truly ongoing. Even after owning the device for years, it continues to receive updates that add support for newer vehicles and improve existing functions. It’s refreshing to see a company that actually stands behind its promise and keeps its products relevant instead of making customers buy a new scanner every few years. The application has also evolved significantly over time. The latest version has a much cleaner interface, is more intuitive, and makes the diagnostic process faster and easier. It’s clear that XTOOL continues to invest in improving the user experience. I also want to recognize their customer support. Recently, I had an activation issue because I no longer had the original activation code after owning the device for several years. I contacted their support team, and they resolved my problem quickly and professionally. The fact that they were willing to help a customer long after the original purchase says a lot about the company and how much they value their users. After several years of ownership, I can honestly say this scanner has exceeded my expectations. It has been reliable, consistently updated, and backed by excellent customer service. If you’re looking for a diagnostic tool that will continue to improve over time rather than become obsolete, I highly recommend the XTOOL A30M V2.0. Thank you, XTOOL, for continuing to support your customers long after the sale.

Great scan tool, could use minor improvements
I have wanted to put a full bi-directional scan tool on my phone for years now and the A30M does the job. I like how the menus are similar to other Autel and Topdon scan tools I've used. It reads the VIN, connects to vehicles and runs Auto Scan a little faster too. I regularly reset service and inspection intervals on German cars with the OIL RESET function; it has worked on all but 1 car so far. As long as I don't break or lose it, the lifetime free updates make this a better deal than other subscription based bluetooth scanners. It doesn't replace a top end scanner, but it handles the majority of what I need. I hardly have to use the shop Autel or Snap On scan tools anymore. Things that can be improved: 1.) A quick start guide in the box. I had trouble connecting to my phone. Bluetooth showed paired, but not connected. Took me a minute to figure it out. When you go to "Bluetooth" in the app's settings menu, MAKE SURE YOU PRESS THE A30M DEVICE IN THE LIST (see picture). Seems obvious, but the list didn't look like the devices were selectable and there's a big "Open Bluetooth setting" button under it that I kept hitting instead. 2.) Voltage meter on the VCI is a waste of money. Half the time the screen is not facing out when it's plugged in, or you have to squat down to see it. It would make a lot more sense to just add a few lines of code and display the vehicle voltage in the app. (Always visible at the top right of the screen, would be perfect.) Instead of a voltmeter, add a speaker and program it to beep when it loses bluetooth connection with the phone. That way, you can't accidentally leave it plugged in the car. I've almost forgotten it a couple times now. 3.) Put live data pids in alphabetical order. Looks like the pids are just listed randomly. For example, I needed to look at all 14 HV battery blocks on a Prius. They should have been in order from 1-14, but they were in groups of 3 or 4 scattered around the page. 4.) Put Special Functions menus in the control module menus Unlike most scan tools, the Special Functions can only be accessed from the main menu on the A30. Say you're looking at live data in the PCM and see the conditions are right to do a throttle relearn. There is no Special Functions menu under PCM. You have to back out of the vehicle to the main menu, select Special Functions, select throttle relearn, reconnect to the vehicle, then relearn.

Snap On who???
I’ve been running a large automotive shop for years, so I’ve used a lot of different scan tools — from basic code readers to much more expensive professional diagnostic scanners. I can honestly say the XTOOL A30M is one of the better tools I’ve used for the money. What impressed me most is how much capability it has in such a simple, compact setup. The wireless connection is convenient, the app is easy to navigate, and it works well for quick diagnostics without having to drag out a large scanner every time. We use scan tools daily in the shop, and this one has been very useful for reading and clearing codes, checking live data, running system scans, and performing service functions depending on the vehicle. The bi-directional controls are a big plus. Being able to command certain components on and off helps a lot when trying to confirm a problem instead of just guessing and throwing parts at a car. That is something I really value in a shop environment because it saves time and helps us diagnose more accurately. For the price, this tool offers a lot. It is not just a cheap code reader — it feels like a real diagnostic tool that can actually help in a professional setting. Of course, vehicle coverage and certain functions can vary depending on the year, make, and model, but overall I’ve been very impressed with it. XTOOL did a great job with the A30M. I would definitely recommend it to shop owners, technicians, mobile mechanics, and serious DIY users. I’ve had a very good experience with it, and based on how it has performed in our shop, I would absolutely be interested in trying and reviewing more XTOOL products in the future.
