Does this tank truly hold 15 gallons of usable water for fish?

Absolutely not. The person who answered saying yes is wrong. I measured after decorating my tank and it only holds 12 gallons. Plus you have to consider the back panel is missing so there is less swim space. This really is more of a 10 gallon tank.

Does 15” depth represent the dist. from the back to the front of the bottom of the tank or from back to the most forward part of the curved face?

It's 15" tall (floor to ceiling) by 15 inches deep (front to back) by 16" wide (left to right). Hope that helps.

What all will it come with. (heater pump. filter. media. etc?

This aquarium comes with an LED light built into the hood, pump, and filter with media.

can someone give me the dimensions of the filter compartment?

It is 4.25" x 3" (this is just the portion that houses the filtration system)
