RECOMMENDED ITEM--BUT WITH HANDLING WARNINGS
MY "old" (Dorcy & ACE) rechargeable flashlights, the exact same as this item, had "Nickel-metal-hydride" (Ni-MH") batteries, 2.4 volt 330mAHr rating. I bought two from Amazon. ALL are wonderful, and very bright. "They just keep running." . MY OLDEST ONE HAD A LABEL OF "ACE", yes ACE Hardware, but they have not carried them for years, for unknown reasons. They have nothing comparable now. Interestingly, that old ACE flashlight carried the SAME model number on it--"MODEL 41-1045. ...Two others are still working just fine, after so many years (!see my ADVICE in the next paragraph below!). . MY HINTS/ADVICE TO ALL COMPLAINANTS HERE, ABOUT THIS FLASHLIGHT: DO NOT LEAVE THESE PLUGGED IN! They hold their charge for weeks & weeks, and months, standing out, and only need a maximum 8-10 hour charge when low, even after extended use. DO NOT JUST LEAVE THEM PLUGGED IN WAITING FOR A POWER FAILURE! . My oldest such flashlight, now 6-7 years old, stopped charging (I eventually determined, originally thinking that it was the battery, but it was NOT). This flashlight still works fine, again, but I have had to charge its battery occasionally in a NEW flashlight, and/or "swap" batteries.

Did not last as long as expected.
This was a great flashlight to have in the event of a power outage. You leave it plugged in to keep a charge and when the power goes out, it starts flashing in a strobe like fashion. We’ve had it for about 2-3 years, but now it won’t charge any more. Very disappointing, thought it would have lasted longer than that.

This a a very bright light. It works well to tell you that the power is out or to use when you need to find something. I am impressed with the quality of this flashlight. I am going to need to buy some more for our home as we live in a hurricane area.

Exactly what we were looking for.
The small ready light makes it easy to locate this flashlight for use in the dark when the power is still on (letting the cat out, finding your way through the house etc...). The 3-way switch allows you to set the light to come on automatically when the power goes out and the texture and shape of this smaller flashlight make it easy to handle.

Functionality poorly designed.
When the power goes out, the flashlight flashes. Pressing the on/off button does nothing, the unit continues to flash. In order to stop the flashing you must remove the unit from the wall and fold in the plug. Then, and only then, will it hold a steady light. Pressing the on/off button will now work as one would expect. To say that it is a 3-way switch is misleading, because it cannot be set to hold a constant light when it is plugged in the wall and the power goes out. Here's the problem. If this unit is to be used in case of emergency, you want a constant light, not a flashing light. If the emergency is an earthquake, a flashing light could cause you to misjudge debris, including glass. You could end up stepping on something sharp and painful while in the process of trying to get to the flashlight to stop the annoying flashing. Even those who've been through several earthquakes experience anxiety during and after an earthquake... do you really want a flashing light, which is associated with danger, to further rattle your nerves? If you live in the city and the power goes out, you may be surprised just how dark it can get. This is the time you need a dependable solid light so that you can pull yourself together and deal with the emergency, not a strobe light to send you over the edge. Anyone with epilepsy should stay away from this product. As a plus, wall outlets with two sockets can accommodate both the flashlight and another plug. I've only had the unit for a few days, so I cannot speak about the battery life.

Bright lights and handy to use
We bought two of these and really like using them. They are squared in design so they do not roll off furniture, a plus. They shine brightly and are easy to turn on and off. The only issue I have is that when trying to plug into a socket to recharge it , the plug keeps folding in and can be frustrating.

Great, Reliable, Always charged!
Reliable and bright. No problems and I may buy more for my children. Tired of buying batteries and then when I need a flashlight, they have died...No more with this great addition to our emergency kit for hurricanes in Florida.

They normally do NOT last. If they did, they'd be great otherwise!
Pro's: Small/compact, bright, and flashes when there is a power failure, so it is easy to find. Only covers one outlet. Cons: They DON'T LAST! I bought 4 of them over the years, and two have them have failed. One in about a year, and another in about 2 years. Amazon is always great about it - not their fault. The Dorcy flashlights are just not what they used to be. Either the rechargeable batteries are not lasting, or the "Forever Bulb" is not forever. There is no way to tell what the issue is, but they just stop working suddenly. It is a shame, as these would be great flashlights, IF they lasted, but do they do NOT, sadly. I may try the Energizer Weather Ready ones next. Let's see if those last!!

This is a great rechargeable flashlight. I keep it plugged in charging all the time. Can always find it and it's always fully charged. Very happy with this.

The battery blew up and expanded the casing of the flashlight. We contacted the company since it has a warranty but they didn't even reply.

A choice of clear lens would be helpful.

Sketchy rechargeable batteries which fail completely sometimes quite quickly (after about 18 months. Dorcy Canada no longer stocks spare batteries and Dorcy USA does not deliver to Canada so be warned. (I believe Tricellsales may have them). Gives a bright focused beam and is very useful. Should the power fail it will flash on and off and is a bargain compared with the larger models that have a night light built in. Very handy for those rare times when the power fails. Some may prefer other makes that come on and stay on in a power failure. It all depends on where you want to deploy them.
