re-playable resource management
I really enjoy this game as I like resource management games and this one is straightforward and fast paced, with enough variety for it to be re-playable. I also like that it is fun both with two players and with more players, very few games are good for both in my experience.

Super fun family/friends game
One of the greatest multi-player games for kids and adults! We probably play this at least once a week and it goes on every golf trip and vacation. It’s easy to pack with you in a ziplock bag and has a very low learning curve for new players. Great balance of strategy and luck!

Great Warmup or Chillout Game
Our group loves to use this game to warmup for more complex ones, even the more hardcore board game players among us. Sometimes we’ll all be tired from work or whatever and we’ll just end up playing this the whole. A decent get-what-you-put-in game, where you can have fun and participate without really trying, but there’s also solid depth to it for those that want a little more out of the experience.

Perfect quick game with great replayability
This is my go-to game when I want something fast and easy to get to the table. It’s simple enough for beginners to pick up quickly, but still engaging for more experienced players. The randomness of the cards keeps each game feeling different, which really helps with replayability. It also packs down fairly small, making it a great option for travel or bringing along to game nights.

Just an amazing game. Doesn’t force you to trade like monopoly but has all the fun parts IMO!

FUN, QUICK, & SIMPLE
This game is a lot of fun for all types of board gamers. The game is an easy learn, plays quickly, and feels fun the whole time. Roll dice, collect coins, buy something, repeat. *I will start with a quick pros and cons list which you can read more about those things in detail below the list. PROS Quick, easy, fun Kid’s 4+ can play Good Art Mostly Good interactions Scales well at all player counts CONS Sleeved Cards need some help to fit. (see below and image) Coin storage does reach the lid and leaves a mess of coins in the box. Some cards aren’t good at 2-players (but market card stacking makes it easy to ignore those cards) THEME The theme is cute, with great art that goes with it. You are trying to build the best little Japanese village. But the theme basically ends there. The mechanics in the game are very separate from the theme. As you play you sort of forget about “why” you are doing what you are doing in a thematic sense. As you play for the most part your actions are very separate from the theme of the game. You’re not making actions thinking I want to build a beautiful flower shop to go with my other flower thing, you are just thinking I get 2 coins if I do this, I need these dice numbers, this gives me this combo, etc. AESTHETICS The game looks beautiful. The art is cute and playful. Something that will definitely invite new gamers into the game without being scared away and the kids and wife will be open to play it. COMPONENTS Nothing disappointing in this box. I do like plastic coins over cardboard ones. It has a nicer feel in your hands overall. The dice are actually a nice large size then what I’d usually get in a game. The insert isn’t terrible but requires some adjustments if you sleeve cards (see sleeving for more details). Also the coins in the box will not stay in place if you don’t keep them in a baggy especially if you store your games vertically. SLEEVING There are two solvable issues with sleeving these cards. 1. You can sleeve the cards but you will need to make some adjustments for the original box storage. The card storage goes from a smaller size at the bottom to a larger size at the top. When placing sleeved cards in the storage they won’t fit without the edges of the sleeves bending to fix this I simply had to place some foam or cardboard towards the bottom. This places the cards at a higher position in the storage where there is a wider area for the sleeved cards to fit. 2. The separate sections of card storage are a bit too close together causing the cards to come in contact with cards in other stored areas. To deal with this I basically have to sort of shuffle the corners of the cards in the two sections that are next to each other. Or you can simply place the cards in opposite card storage sections so they aren’t adjacent. REPLAY VALUE There is limited strategy in the game but overall because of the quick pase of each game it gives it a higher replay value as you can enjoy quick short games without getting too annoyed at your luck. Most games I’ve played are also close as everyone usually only needs one more building to win. GAME ARC The game starts off with three buying phases, then goes into a slow start as you try to build up your card pool, once everyone starts getting their card pool built up the game quickly ends. The game doesn’t feel too long, but sometimes it feels like it can end very quickly depending on the rolls. I have never felt like the game extended too long based off of rolls that harmed other players as usually there are others that will get rolls that don’t hurt them allowing them to win the game. EASE OF PLAY Very easy to play and quick set up time. STRATEGY/LUCK This game has some strategy but that strategy is largely dependent on the luck of the rolls. However the luck of the rolls is mitigated by your strategy. It’s sort of a circular thing. KIDS I play this game with my almost 4 year old daughter. She loves buying the different cards that she likes. She can figure out how the buying works all by herself for the most part. She can easily identify the cost of each card. However she has a complete lack of strategy or much of an understanding of the end goal. But that’s ok, she can just buy whatever she wants and might even accidently win from time to time. (She loves the hamburger shop by the way.) This game has actually been great as recently she has begun learning how to use money and loves playing “store” (bookshop, restaurant, etc) and charging me imaginary money for items (We basically just high five and call it good). WIFE Cute art, simply game play, and doesn’t take too long, checks all the boxes for the wife. Though for a 1v1 experience it can get dull as there isn’t a lot of strategic elements or enough thematic drive to keep the game interesting over many plays but it is a perfect game for when you are both tired front the day with kids or a hard day at work and don’t want to play anything that require too many brain cells.

Super fun once you understand the rules.
I got Machi Koro 2, for my husband’s birthday. He loves all types of board games and really enjoys the family time. He also loves games which require a little more thinking by the players and involves creating complex strategies, which I later discovered while playing this for the first time ever. My husband owns the first version of this game already, and that in itself means he had an advantage in understanding the basic rules. At first, I was overwhelmed, trying to memorize gameplay. Luckily, it does come with quick-reference cards which I quickly became grateful for, especially since the game involves a combination of dice, cards, and money. Essentially, each player buys properties using money they earn from the bank or other players. At first, each player is broke. This limits the properties (cards) they can purchase. But, each time you roll the dice, there is an opportunity to earn more money, and gradually you can “buy” better properties. The first player to own three landmark properties wins the game. Even though I did lose the first few times, I got better with each game and genuinely enjoyed it. Each game can last about 20 minutes when there are only two players. The longest was 40 minutes. The more players you add, the longer the gameplay, but it also gets more competitive too, making it a hit for a small gathering.

Easy to learn but fairly strategic. You need to plan what establishments to buy that will benefit you in the long run. Games can take about an hour or so depending on any “house rules” you set (ex. only buying 1 establishment per turn or not).

Super Spiel! Verschiedenste Strategien und Kartenkombinationen sind möglich. Durch das Würfeln verbindet sich Glück (oder eben Pech ;D ) mit Strategie was das ganze spannend macht. Jede Runde ist alles möglich ☺️
