Why do the worm gears push up from whatever I have them wrapped around when I tighten them?

You need to put the cut end through the clamp again at the other end of worm gear so it follows the same direction and curve of the clamp.

What is the weight limit?

Don't know for sure but my clamp is holding up close to 30 lbs

1/2" is the width of the band. I am very happy with them. I needed some large ones so I made what I needed with what this "kit" has in it and have a bunch left! John
