Higher quality
I needed these rocks for my electric smoker. The ones included were very small chunks. This works significantly better.

They're lava. Not much else to say.
I use these in a tray on my oven when baking bread. They act as a "heat sink," so to speak, to regulate the temperature more steadily, and by dumping a couple of cups of ice on them when first putting the bread into the oven, it creates steam for longer than just spraying mist into the oven, thus allowing the bread to have a longer rise before setting.

Perfect for open bake
I purchased these to use in my oven to create steam when open baking sourdough bread and they work perfectly. They are sized just right to fit in a cast iron pan and generate great steam when heated and hot water is poured over them. They are a bit dusty when you open the packaging, so be careful. Otherwise they are great for my purposes.

Replace lava rocks more often than you think
While new gas grills do not require lava rocks (which are known for better heat distribution) my older grill I just cleaned and repplace4d the old lava rocks. Note the lava rocks should go between the flame and the grill that you cook. Lava Rocks should be replaced every year or every two years, they do lose the ability to retain the heat and actually break down.

Size of rocks!
Most rocks are very small. I had enough larger ones to fill the grate on my Kenmore 800 grill from the 1980s.

It’s rocks. Works.
What can you say about a rock?

para rellenar el deposito de agua del asador WSM con tapa, mucho mas practico que el agua como damper termico

The size of the lava rocks inconsistent with the size. Most are really small that they fall between the grill which render them render useless. Some are just too big .
