Learn how to confidently draw the human form from head to toe with this comprehensive, richly illustrated guide. Expert drawing instructor and storyboard artist Tom Fox knows exactly how to capture the figure in poses that are both dynamic and true to human anatomy. The book details the central figure-drawing elements and techniques that are essential to every artist of every skill level. From understanding the XYZ axis and basic skeleton, to thinking in 3D space and creating mannequins of all levels of detail, the book deals with everything the reader needs to know before moving on to the figure itself. Tom presents in step-by-step details exactly how to add the muscles and depict truly believable poses. Every part of the body is presented in detail, with easy-to-follow breakdowns of the torso, arms, and legs, and the often-tricky head, hands, and feet. The author also shares insightful, game-changing anatomy tips, many learned from years of working for major clients in the entertainment industry and teaching others to draw the human figure, both in person and online. This combination of experiences and skills make Tom an outstanding author of this must-have book for artists in all areas of figure drawing. Review: AWESOME resource for learning to draw character , anatomy, poses! - Awesome resource! Huge impact on my art! I've had this book for about 3 months and spend 15 minutes to an hour drawing from it everyday. It has had a dramatic impact on my drawing! It is awesome! The author is clearly is a strong artist, with powerful insight into supporting the learning process. Tom Fox, AKA tomfoxdraws on social media, has developed a powerful approach and course for learning to draw anatomy. I can also appreciate how it may not meet everyone's expectations - you may benefit from knowing that it is NOT a book full of highly detailed photographs of anatomy. If that's what you're expecting, you may need to adjust your expectations or consider additional resources to meet those needs. Even if you are looking for a book with details photographs of human anatomy, you may still benefit from this book. I was a little surprised that it didn't have photographs of anatomy when I received it, and it took me a while to appreciate the approach. If another edition of this book is published, readers may benefit from a little more detailed guidance or suggestions on how to enjoy and obtain benefits from this book. It sounds like the author has a strong presence on social media - which I don't - and I'm curious if tuning into his instagram, TikTok or twitter - may provide some of that guidance. The short intro does expressers a passion for drawing suggests that investing time in a drawing practice will improve drawing... and be extremely gratifying and result in valuable - and marketable skills. I started at the beginning, read Tom's short paragraphs and thoughtfully reproduce the initially simple shapes, that bit by bit, are tuned into more complex forms representing human anatomy. I do a page or two a day, and review earlier sections periodically or as needed. Initially I tried starting in the middle of the book. I was struggling to draw the mandible from below, so I skipped to the section on the mandible. It took me a little struggling to realize it may be more helpful to start at the start and gradually build my understanding of increasingly complex forms before attempting to jump into something super complex from the start. That gradual approach has been powerful and fun! Initially It's not obvious how these exercises are helpful, but I've seen huge impact in my drawing - easier to draw more accurate, visually pleasing anatomy, poses and gesture. It took a little faith, and you too may benefit from starting at the start. Learning is weird and it may not be necessary to understand exactly how we learn in order to learn well. It's probably enough to seek a teacher that understands the subject and practice practice practice and see what happens. In summary, Anatomy for Artists; Drawing Form and Pose, by Tom Fox aka tomfoxdraws on socials, is an AMAZING resource from an artist and teacher who stands apart in his ability to support the learning process of drawing. If another edition of this book is published, some readers would benefit for a little more explicit explication of how to use this resource. Nevertheless, it's as powerful book and course of study! Thank you tomfoxdraws! Perhaps in the next edition something like, "there are not many words in this book, but read them all. Start at the start and work gradually towards the back. Reproduce all the illustrations, repeatedly in your sketch book gradually over the course of weeks or months. Check back to previous pages occasionally as needed or periodically for fresh insight as your skills and concepts of anatomy develop. Have faith this will improve your drawing even if you don't understand why! " I'm not a master drawing teacher like Tom, but that's what I've been doing and it has been powerful for me! Thanks you Tom! Review: Highly recomend... Very well informed manual on drawing the human figure - Even though I am an experienced sketch and figure Artist... (at 68) not too many tricks you can teach this old dog) I still picked up some pointers and ideas I had not seen before... I found the book and teaching very well thought out... very well informed... very easy to follow... I would have loved to have had this volume way back when I was first starting out... it is through in the extreme... unless your wanting to learn how to illustrate internal body parts (which are not covered)... bone and muscle and joint structure are completely covered... and done in such a way as you will not find in other books... These guys did a fantastic job on this book... hope to meet these guys some day...

Forms in 3D!
This book excels in breaking human anatomy into simple shapes that can be easily applied into 3D. As an artist with an intermediate understanding of anatomy, I found the lessons on foreshortening and framing particularly helpful. If you are a beginner, I recommend starting with "the box mannequin" section and going into specifics from there. However, it's important to note this book does not have step-by-step instructions and the knowledge shared is dependent on how you utilize it. Overall, I have found this book to be one of the best resources in my collection and I recommend it to anyone wanting to broaden their understanding of the human body.

Fantastic book on the human form
If you want a detailed look at anatomy I suggest going to Proko's website, you won't get it here. If you want the very basics on drawing the human form start with Michael Hamptons book and Robert Beverly Hales books. For example I don't remember this book ever covering the proportions of the figure overall, or any anatomy charts. This isn't a 1 stop for everything, but the information it has isn't in any other books I know of in this kind of detail. It breaks down the figure part by part and simplifies them and builds them up to complex volumes.

Good for intermediate level, not so much for beginners
Great book for those who are intermediate and wants to improve their understanding of 3D form but not recommended for beginners. This book serves more as a reference book rather than a how-to book. Each page shows a simplified form then progress into a more complex form. To take advantage of the book, its best if you have skill in drawing boxes, cylinders, and spheres. It may get overwhelming as it quickly goes from very simplified shape to a shape with lots of planes so stick to the simple forms.

Excellent book for learning about anatomical drawing
I bought this book for my son, and he uses it every day! He told me that his anatomical drawings have improved. He showed me some of his current work, and there is a marked difference.

Helpful anatomy book
Not recommended for beginners, but this is the best book for intermediate to advanced learners. It really helped me to think of the human form through space and different and odd compositions. I am still working my way through the book but this has helped me tremendously with my fundamentals

comprehensive and easy to follow along
this book is AMAZING! i would very much recommend not just jumping between pages (as i often do with art books), but instead following the sections as they’re instructed because tom fox draws eloquently ups the levels of detail as the reader progresses through the book. aka simple-> detailed, making sure you understand the fundamental aspects of anatomical forms and functions before diving into the more detailed elements (ex muscles). this may sound obvious, but it’s oftentimes a lacking component of other anatomy books/resources, such as bridgemans constructive anatomy. the progression of detail is far from overwhelming, and i adore this book for it. 100/5 stars!

Fantastico e divertente per imparare anatomia.
Fantastico per chi inizia a disegnare. Spiega in modo molto chiaro l'anatomia. Quello in mio possesso è in inglese.

Best anatomy book for structured learning
I struggled with other anatomy books, the author would explain the fundamental concepts of figure drawing, then present a mannequin that is divorced from the concept and heavily relies on the author's own stylisation, this book is the outlier in that regard. Instead, we are given an introduction to the author's own study method, which is (outline->form->corrected outline) or (form->outline->corrected form), the tug and war between the structural and graphic design of the figure is explained as stages to learning, and aren't differentiated as their own processes, something many other books don't really clarify. I'm currently at the head section, i always struggled with the head's forms, yet this book gave me a template that you slowly build on more and more complex forms as you go along. Another thing i love about this book, is how the author doesn't focus on perfect line art, line art has always distracted me and forced me into a study pit of exclusively marks-making exercises, yet here the author just does "good enough" and his drawings are amazing. The only problem is this book won't be as intuitive for someone who hasn't studied primitive forms like cubes and cylinders because the method is very heavy on perspective skills and depends on your ability to do it freehand.

Cool drawing system.
Great drawing knowledge for all levels. However I think intermediate and advance students who are experienced but are less with this constructive type drawing will get the most out of it. This is just one way to simplify the body. Personally I think you should learn all methods and take the best from each that works for you. ;) Advice from an internet stranger.
