Hash Crack: Password Cracking Manual

This book is a reference manual with command syntax, common hash types, and tables that can be frequently used by penetration testers to assist in password hash cracking. Being a novice pentester I find having quick reference and usage for basic to advanced attacks to be invaluable. The font is small but is perfect size to stash away in your pentest go bag. Many sections are very useful and gives a user a concise picture of all the tools and resources available to network security professionals without having to google around scrolling through forums and readme pages. I feel this manual benefits beginners to intermediate pentesters best that have only standard knowledge of the password hash cracking process. Definitely recommend to pick up a copy and look forward to using this in my day to day.

This book is the perfect companion to the RTFM and BTFM pocket guides. I don't think the author intended to provide a comprehensive, step-by-step explanation of password security or password cracking. It IS a great reference manual (pretty sure that's the purpose) for those who, like myself, can't remember exact syntax of every tool, or the source of quality word dictionaries, or how to handle a specific type of hash - this book does that. Thank you, Mr. Picolet, for a great book!

Shortcut to the needed commands. Good for short study guide

Great manual for an overview of the hacking methodology and techniques, this goes great with my other travel CTF books.

Would have preferred an electronic format due to the tiny print. Definitely not poor eyesight friendly. Content is great, just wish it was easier to read.

As described, and met my expectations. Lot's of information in a small space. Excellence for reference, but don't expect to learn techniques here.

great instructional book...as a pentester i keep this in my bag as a quick reference guide

Just a random collection of functions. Purchased for use in my business as a "manual" instead I got the equivalent to encryption gibberish.

Nice to have around when you want to test hash and password security and you don't want to fill the brain with many options and switch to the software.

I had big hopes for this book. I figured it would outline some example methods then discuss them in detail. Instead, it's really just an output of the manual pages of various cracking tools put into a book. It gets 3 stars because I'm nice. Do yourself a favor and use google instead...

Fantastic reference book with enough contentent laid out in a no-mess stle has made it a useful addition to my collection. Add to your Field manual collection!
