Planning on getting it for my college id to get into the buildings, is it a good product to attach it to the side of my backpack for easy access?

I use mine for my employee ID, I wear it on a lanyard around my neck. The only concern I would have with having it on a backpack, is getting it caught on things and it can become unsnapped. Wearing it on a lanyard around my neck I am not getting it caught on things. The clip is awesome and clipping it to your belt would probably also work.

Does the carabiner clip close very well? Some carabiner clips are loose & could slip off the belt loop easily.
