One day, third-grade teacher Kyle Schwartz asked her students to fill-in-the-blank in this sentence: "I wish my teacher knew _____." The results astounded her. Some answers were humorous, others were heartbreaking-all were profoundly moving and enlightening. The results opened her eyes to the need for educators to understand the unique realities their students face in order to create an open, safe and supportive place in the classroom. When Schwartz shared her experience online, #IWishMyTeacherKnew became an immediate worldwide viral phenomenon. Schwartz's book tells the story of #IWishMyTeacherKnew, including many students' emotional and insightful responses, and ultimately provides an invaluable guide for teachers, parents, and communities. Wow.
I ordered this book for a master’s class and can honestly say that this is the ONLY book that I have enjoyed in my college career. Eye-opening as an educator and an easy read.

Great Quick Resource
This is a wonderful read to help build relationships with your students! I would like to adapt this and do with teachers. But using, “I wish my principal knew…”

Great, eye opening book.
I had to buy this book for one of my college courses, and write a report on it. I usually hate book reports but I really enjoyed this one. It was simple and easy to read and it wasn't overly long with bigger print. It was easy to analyze too. I enjoyed the stories in them and I feel everyone who is going to be working with children (0- high school) should read this book. It is eye opening that not all things are as they appear.

A must read for teachers
As an urban teacher in Denver, and now Houston, this book continues to be the Bible of my profession. Kyle brings the real, everyday life experiences of our students to the forefront and it hits you right between the eyes. This book has helped me to empathize with and better understand my students which has allowed me to advocate more for these students and their families. I am a better teacher because of this book. A must read for any teacher or human being. Can't wait for her new one!

All educators AND parents should read this book
This book should be read not only by educators, that's a given, but parents too, whether your child is flying through school engaged, or needs help to reach their potential. Having an awareness of what good teaching looks like and the struggles our children's peers may be going through not only put our own children's experiences and education into perspective but our own opinions, labels and perceptions too.

Bof
Livre redondant et ennuyeux.... rien de nouveau

Important for educators
I really did enjoy this book, however, I could only give it three stars because the information inside was not entirely different from many other education and teaching books I have read. I am a high school teacher and have read MANY books on pedagogy, student needs (that go far beyond what we think), and teaching practices and strategies. While this truly is a good book and it started from a wonderful place, I found a lot of the content to be repetitive and not really unique from other books on the same topic.
