How do you know when it's time to change the filter?

It will stop filtering the smoke and the smoke will just come back out

Hi there, If you hear a rattling sound coming from inside the replacement filter cartridge, that is normal. That is the activated carbon (charcoal) filter inside. I hope this helps.

Why is smoke coming out the top of mine. I have to blow really hard and long for it not

Try removing the hydrophobic screen and cleaning off the resin/moisture. Once cleaned, pat it dry and put it back inside the mouthpiece. This should bring the HEPA filter back to new.
