desertcart.com: Living a Jewish Life, Updated and Revised Edition: Jewish Traditions, Customs, and Values for Today's Families: 9780061173646: Diamant, Anita, Cooper, Howard: Books Review: Invaluable reference and how-to for beginners and returning Jews - Diamont's "Living a Jewish Life" is a readable, welcoming, inclusive introduction to liberal Jewish living. This book is aimed at adult readers seeking to move their lives in a Jewish direction - as Diamont puts it, to make more "Jewish choices." Covering topics such as the Jewish home, the Jewish community, holidays, and life-cycle events, Diamont de-mystifies basic concepts and practices. It is an excellent primer and should be an early addition to any beginner's Jewish library. It reads mostly as a "how-to," making Jewish practice do-able for the novice, though it also includes well-researched basic background information, complete with end-notes and suggestions for further reading. It will be most useful to secular Jews and Reform, Reconstructionist, Renewal, and liberal-leaning Conservative Jews who never went to Hebrew school, or for whom Hebrew school is a distant memory. While Diamont encourages a diversity of Jewish opinions and levels of worship, this book is not aimed at those seeking a very traditional Orthodox lifestyle. Beliefs, prayers and home liturgy are mentioned within the context of discussion of a particular event or occasion, but Diamont's focus is not on introducing or explaining Jewish belief or synagogue liturgy in depth. Review: Informative, Easy Reading - This book is not only very informative but also easy to read and understand. It's well written and educational, and I feel it's a great starting point for learning about Judaism.

A very brief intro, nothing substantial really
The topics contained are good with decent information and the book is generally an easy read. I find it to be a good and simple introduction and I will say that the holiday chapters are quite informative in a simple way. I find the book a very light offering, yet very strong in it's delivery, therefore, a strong yet simple introduction to topics, which in my opinion, makes for a good start!

Used but BETTER THAN EXPECTED
I bought it used as opposed to new and it’s in really decent shape. Of course, there are a few folded corners, but the book has held up well. Saved a bunch of dough buying used so I’m looking for other good books. I am a member of the Jewish community and this book provides an excellent read on the religion as a whole, holidays, committees, and family functions. 💕
